Work Experiance ?

I did a few weeks at Orange bikes in Halifax.

I was basicly building up frames ready to be sent out to shops.

It was ace, you got given a box, and the speck of the bike, then you go into the wearhouse where they have lods of shelves with fancy pimp components.

You filled up the box, and built up the frame (applying stickers an all)

then I had to box them up and put them in the lorry.

at lunch we went out on all the prototype bikes they had (oranze zero was only in prototype stage then) and went out the back and rode them, the dh bikes were well fun.

I also went and watched the guy paint the bikes (he went and locked me in the oven at 150 degrees! it was well hot lol

Steve Wade (co owner of orange) took me to the wearhouse where they do all the metal work, showed me around the machines and told me how they work and all about the heat treatment.

Back at the other building he showed me his office where he designs the frames (showing me some secrete stuff on cad)

I really enjoyed my time there, at the end they gave me loads of clothes and stickers.

I have been to other places though which I hated, the most I lasted was 3 days, I just couldnt stand it!

The main thing I couldnt cope with was the hours, one was 7.45am till 5pm, that was unbearable.

It was my first day today and allll day i was in a truck dilivering good to peoples houses with someone from jacksons building which is where i am doing it. I can give you one word what it was like "CRAP" !!!!  AND the most boringest thing i have ever done in my life ! Honestly !  :)

Whats wrong with doing that???

That's what i do for my proper job when I work, is easy money and get to travel around. It's not exactly hard dropping goods off at peoples houses and hotels

I did my work experience in a carpenters workshop, was good fun and helped make a staircase

Well it's not some people's cup of tea is it.

It's laborious, and under paid. Also can be quite strenuous since you're driving, loads.

My dad's a lorry driver and I've been with him loads and in my opinion, it's shite. I can't beleive he can do it all day. It must be so f**kin' boring, but he's used to it and can't be arsed changing jobs now. There's no point since he's only like 10 years off retirement.

It's the same as with Sainsburys. I used to work there. It was f**king boring and uber easy, and I got £4.05 an hour. Ok money for easy work but it's not pushing you, interesting, intricate etc.

Sounds like everyone here had some cool work experience placements..

On the other hand, I worked for a 'landscape gardener' which involved moving patio slabs mainly. The most interesting thing that happened was a swarm of bee's flying over a garden we were working in :). Twas pretty nice being outside in the sun and stuff though, and not really that hard work.

Then I 'worked' for a web design company (two brothers), who were shit, made crap websites and charged 700 odd quid for them. Turned out they were wiccans (witches) and one of them was gay. Sound guys though... if a little wierd. Basically spent the week teaching them web design and watching sky on their 44" projection telly :P

just out of interest, but how long is/was your work experiance?

Mines 2 weeks. I was talking to one of the guys in Halfords about some of their work experiance people, he said this one guy was meant to stay for 8 weeks! but he made him cry and go home. he only asked him to look for something on the computer! (Y)
