New Disc & +20/40mm Adaptor.

Righto, just two fairly small questions.

Firstly, i want to upgrade my rotor from the pretty buckled avid rotor that came with my avid mechanical. I want something thats light, and will give more bite, not really bothered about loosing heat fast.

I don't really want people who don't have experience with rotors to just say, "well i've heard so and so is good" i want to know how well your rotor works :D

Secondly, when i get a new rotor, i want to get either a 180 or 200 rotor. Now i'm no genius, but i guess i need an adaptor :D" so if anyone can give me some links to good +20/40 mm adaptors, and advice on rotor size. I know 160 should be fine (20" wheels, i weigh 9 stone) but i get lazy and don't want to pull the lever that hard, so would 200 be way over the top, or is 180 my best bet?

I like money in my pocket, cheap is good, but so is something that lasts 2 years.

Phil.

You have an Avid already = much easier.

You just need a new rotor size and the mounting bracket. The brackets only like £7 from CRC or Wiggle if I remember correctly.

Then you need the rotor.

Replace the old bracket with the new, Replace the old disk with the new, sorted. New size system

As for rotor size, I upgraded from a 165 avid to a 203 avid. (By the way, you can't get 200mm or 205mm Avids, only 203 and 185) It makes alot of difference. There's alot more power and I haven't noticed an increase in overheating and fading to be honest. However, pad choice is pretty vital to have a decent avid. Upgrading from 165 to 203 came with a pad chance. Going from Avid pads to Aztec pads. They're really nowhere near as good. I'd say whilst I was running Aztec pads on my 203, the 165 with Avid pads was probably better.

Anyway, yeah, it's a good move :D

Anyone else got any advice?

I want a more fancy rotor than the normal avid one preferably, and they are fairly expensive as well. I think im gunna get the aztec rotor in 185. Looks to be light, and a very nice design.

Would a "Avid Caliper Bracket For 185mm IS" be the right mount?

What about the Aztek wavey rotor, they looks real nice, not tried on though, also, seeing as u have an avid, if u wanted to be a cheap bum, u could just out more washers inbetween the black adapter and the caliper, as this will push the caliper further out and be usable with the bigger rotor, oh, and use longer bolts to avoid stripping the mounts.

The 'avid caliper bracket for 185' should be right. Ive found Hayes discs nice in the past. The copy that hope does works very well and is slightly cheeper and nicer looking (has the spokey things from the old M4s but a hayes breaking surface.)
