Van Insurance

Hi,

I just got a quote for a ford courier van, 1400cc.

3rd Party and the van is worth roughly 800.

Anyway the quote from norwichunion was £2006.89 p.a. Is this too expensive or reasonable, i have no knowledge in this area. I am 17 by the way, if this affects pricing.

Is there anywhere cheaper?

Thanks

Mike

Er yeah.

A mate of mine just got insured on a Transit-type van (It was actually a Fiat or soemthing), for less that it costs him to be insured on a Ford Escort 1.4l.

If you're 17, car insurance is expensive, the end. You should be able to get it for less than that, but not by a whole lot. Maybe £1500? I'm no expert though.

ive had 3 vans in 6 months of driving (corsa 1.7d astra 1.7d and astra 1.7td)

and i only pay £500 insurance per year....

because that how much extra it cost to be put on my dads company insurance (6 vans in total)

just make sure you get (and declare) an imobiliser , alarm, 'no tools left in this vehicle over night' sign etc

Won't be too bad, old diesel vans don't have any power anyway. lol. My dads 2.9 turbo van is slow as fook, his 1.6 corsa is faster :- Hell, my mums 1.0 yaris is faster

Diesels nowadays have fairly decent torque so they pull well, hence most vans being diesel as they are both economical and good for pulling loads. The trouble is as soon as you hit 70mph they run out of breath and will be shite.

I guarantee most 1.3's will be quicker is they're petrol, just the way the engines are.

dunno who you've tried so far but i went though loads and loads and my two cheapest were Tesco and Direct Line. I went with direct line in the end.

Also a mate at work says 'Elephant' is cheap too, but i never tried them.

Forget Tesco and that lot (good for cars, pants for vans) and give CIS a phone. The only people I've found who accept that some people drive vans without running a business. My minivan had quotes of the £2k mark for TPFT, CIS sorted me out fully comp for about £900. Cheapest I've found for vans. You'll probably have to actually phone them and explain the situation though. Online quote's often miss the mark.

If it's one of those little vans by ford of vauxhaul then yeah they're pretty nippy.

I presumed it was a big work van like a WV or Merc you were talking about... 0-60 in .... 50 seconds... woo!

Well thats nothing really, well it is but compared to this it isn't. I got quoted on a 1990 H Reg Ford Fiesta RS Turbo, 3RD Part, Fire and Theft Only. Car is £1400 (Wanted it but not paying that much insurance on a 1990 model) cheapest I found was £2000, but others was like £4400, and another was like £9,400  :D :D

Look around, go to I think its First Alternative, not sure can't remember my cheapest.

corish.

Not surprised if your birthday in your profile is right, 26 February 1989.

Try Confused.com it's like a brokers, but more sites.

Trying to convince my parents my trust fund should be put to a new guitar instead of a car, it's not working though. <_<

Seconded, I used them and saved £500 from the nearest offer. What's weird is that tesco, asda etc. All use Norwich Union to back their products which are often half the price of NU direct
