JoNnY__Mc
hello dudes and dudettes  just another topic... okay... come christmas i may be pretty good at trials... well i hope so... so i might be able to get a new bike, or a new frame as an upgrade. i was just wondering whether its worth upgrading to a new bike? or buying a frame and sticking all my bits on it? or another option is to get all new bits for the bike i have? i am riding a diamondback t10... (and i know what you guys think of them (Y)... no comments please :) ) will changing my bike or frame ruin my progression? i am thinking this because won't be used to the setup. after riding a more higher spec bike like my friends saracen mad i know how differently some of the bikes available feel - really different and... well horrible to me. has anyone done this? how did it feel? do you get used to it quickly? had you got too used to the bike you used to ride? what bikes out there are similar in setup to the diamondback t10? i have seen some brisa bikes that look similar, but obviously much lighter as they don't have as wide frames... comments? rickycoleman
Well it really does depend on how much you have, i you have a lot of money then you may aswell get a whole new full build. whereas if you only have a bit it may just be worth upgrading what you've got, If i were you id get some lighter forks and maybe go to single speed and get some new cranks? but i think it's a good starteds bike as it is. Will Arnold
go with what you feel is best at the time! when i have upgraded my bikes, i have always just gone with my gut instinct on what part to get, if you see something thats a worth while ipgrade, save and get it (Y) i dont think u should buy a whole new bike, because there will be no doubt something that youd like to change on it when u get it! good luck with it  Will
JoNnY__Mc
cheers mate, i have already added some brake boosters, and it is in single speed (need a decent chain tensioners soon as i don't want to bend the chain wheel again) and i plan to get a some onza tuff guys? bad idea? good idea? my own opinion is that it would mint with a pair of mavic rims built onto a pair of hope hubs ... and maybe some hs33s racelines in lime green, the possibilities don't stop there either... its just that i don't want to waste all my money on a different bike thats going to feel like sh!t to ride Edited May 28, 2005 by JoNnY__Mc
rickycoleman
just go with sensible upgrades. light forks aren't going to cause any trouble but a different bar and stem set up may not get on with your style of riding, now what i mean, just get one thing at a time, your plains sound fine anyway. zoojames
If you think your comfortable with your frame then upgrade the parts, wheels/hubs will improve the ride of the bike without changing geo, forks may change the geo and they will lighten/weighten your front end which you may find a problem? Some nice D521's on hope xc's could be a nice idea and maybe investing in some forks, cranks, brakes, or a headset? Its the small things that can sometime make the difference between a nice and bad ride! James
Will Arnold
sounds good another good thing about getting one part at a time is that you can feel how different parts affect the ride of the bike, so you get a better understanding of bikes
Ben Geary
i think you should upgrade on parts such as rims, brakes, forks, hubs, but it all depend's on how much you have to spend, don't get a new frame your frame is in mint condition and there is nothing wrong with it, just upgrade your parts, but it's you choice. ben
JoNnY__Mc
cheers guys, you've all helped me quite a lot actually, so thats whats i'm going to do... first... i'm going to change the forks... maybe a bad idea for the first thing, but they are bent... that also meens i'm going to need a new headset... hope any good? dam fuel rods!... and then hopefully them mavics... sweeeeeet! cant wait to let you all no how it goes, my mates mavics land so soft, i just no that they will make a very big difference, i have also heard that hope hubs rarely slip  (Y) Edited May 28, 2005 by JoNnY__Mc
ScotchDave
Why do you need to change your headset?
JoNnY__Mc
Why do you need to change your headset? ← because the forks on it have something that i think(actually i don't have a clue what its called) is called an internal headset, i would show a picture but i don't have one  i don't even know how to explain it... its internal? somebody explain it??? (Y) Edited May 28, 2005 by JoNnY__Mc
ScotchDave
You silly boy, the forks have a crown race on em, tap it off with a hammer n flat bladed screw driver and tap it gently onto the new forks and be carful not to damage it. JoNnY__Mc
that helps :) i am a silly boy aren't i  i can't seem to do anything right... you've probably seen my other topic haven't you, i break my bike every time i go out on it (Y)
ScotchDave
Hmm yeh saw that, no offence but maybe you should get some guidance in how to do stuff to your bike, cos if it's always breaking maybe its cos you put stuff on wrong.

ScotchDave
Fuel rods???? Also about the tyres, get maxxis front n back a front maxxpro will do you proud with a super tacky rear. I prefer high roller front and minion rear. (Y) Also bung a load of talc in between the tyre and the tube helps stop pinches.
biketrialler
Fuel rods are the shitty forks that come on t10s! I suggest get some nice hope wheels and maxxis or michelin tyres - these will stop that annoying skip, drag, wobble or whatever that the current wheels give - and the tyres will have nice grip, spring and puncture protection. guineasmithpig
if u have an internal headset (its inside the headtube of the bike) which i think is corrent for the t10, then u can't jus stick a hope headset in. u can only run internal ones (don't think u can get converters?) just stick with the original unless its broke. anyways, all the above suggestions are good. get good advice before buyin stuff, as its very easy to waste money on crap that u don't need, or wudn't want if u knewabout it! smithy
HargrovesToby
hey mate, i would just upgrade the frame, your parts are sound on the bike, and it wouldonly mean spending more money but.... .......there are some nice bikes out there now for little money like the new t-pro and t-mag. these both ride sweet and would help you progress to an even better rider. hope i helped, Toby

You could also consider going for a new frameas you seem to have a lot of money to spend on it, something like a zoo python or koxx xtp, levelboss etc. Oh, and what may feel shit to ride to us may feel good to ride for you...
