onza t-bird
Hi, I ride an onza t-bird with a gear ratio of 25:18 and a rear freewheel, I am thniking about changing to something that will enable more drive out of one push helping with gapping etc. What is the average gear ratio a mod rider should go for? Thanks Joe

MADBob
What do you mean by "more drive out of one push" ? If you mean making one pedal take you further, increase the front or decrease the back. If you mean making one pedal sccelerate faster, increase the back or decrease the front. I think the most common gear for mods is 18:12 (closely followed by 18:11?) I find a lower gear helps gaps.... nb88
The t-bird is 24:18 and most mod riders use 18:12, with front freewheel, or with a freehub (e.g profile). I use a profile with 12t and an 18t front sprocket Edited May 28, 2005 by Nozmeister
onza t-bird
If i changed to 24:16 would that be the same as 18:12? Joe
PaRtZ
not do maths? 18 divided by 12 = 1.5 24 divided by 16 = 1.5 Yes it would be the same
JT!
You might want to count the teeth on the front chainring again, i don't think it's 25.
