JT!
Just changing my headset and i was cheaking my forks for damage, they were the old lite guys. Working up you have the crown race (think thats what it's called) then there's a thredded bit, but isn't actulay thredded, just looks like it :S , then theres like a plastic strip that sort of covers the part where the streerer enters the forks. My peoblem is that half of this hard plastic stuff has come off, and i was just wondering if it would be a problem in any way shape or form. I don't think it will be, but i just wanted to make sure. I would take a photo if i could, it would have made it much easier, but can't. Thanks. :D EDIT: At the bottom of the red circle you can see the threded bit, it's above that. :turned: Edited May 28, 2005 by JT!
Brisa
Thats the glue that holds you fork together. If they have flexed enough for the glue to crack I'm definately sure I wouldn't be using them again.

If they have flexed enough for the glue to crack I'm definately sure I wouldn't be using them again. ← I dont think glue is going to hold some forks together :S I dont think it will cause any damage like fork snappage, just make sure the fork race doesnt wobble. Try and apply a substitute to the thingy on your fork...i.e aply something that gives the same shape o something like it. Hope it helps you JT! But if in doubt get some more on replacement :turned:
Siders77
I don't think it's glue holding the forks together Brisa! :S I think you would be fine riding with your forks like that JT! Just phone Supercycles or something to make sure. :turned:
JT!
It seems ok, i think it's there just to stop much and shit from going down there, and just to make it overall neater. Put the new headset on and everything smooth. I'm not worryed about the forks, i just don't want them to ultimatly break the headset bearings. :turned:

The glue can't hold anything together, it's not stong enough, son find out anyway. :S
Brisa
Oh no, it actually holds the steerer into the crown! They are pressed in and glued. I had a costly run in with orange trials forks involving a trip to A&E. PM me for the pic... I thought I was just unlucky and got another set of bonded forks... Lite guys and snapped them within the month. I didn't hook and was learning taps. Ask Tart or someone with a bit of knowledge on the bonding process. May be able to give you a better/right way of how it happens.
Mark W
Yeah, that is actually the bond holding your forks together. Scary, huh? :S If it looks sketchy, beware. It's really not worth landing a drop to face :turned:
JT!
Yeah, that is actually the bond holding your forks together. Scary, huh? B) If it looks sketchy, beware. It's really not worth landing a drop to face :D ← What that little bit of glue is holding the forks onto the steerer? :S Well, half of it's missing. :turned: Maby it is time for a change, but i just bought a new headset and a disc brake. :-
Brisa
Your headset or disc wont hold you teeth in though.
JT!
Your headset or disc wont hold you teeth in though. ← Well, lets face it now, i wont be doing any big drops untill i get some new ones. Besides i land on my back wheel. :turned:
Brisa
lol, if I had vid footage of what happened to me you would be very surprised at the damage. Were talking large kerb rolling off and no forks when you wheel touches the ground. Face implant and teeth missing. Non pleasent experiance. JT!
Yeah, but are they actualy broken, i mean it's only glue that has come off round the edge, there must be some still down there.
Nick Dale
Please get some new forks! Serriously mine came apart at the bond and i broke my nose jaw and so on you get the idea :turned:" wasn't very fun i must say here is a little pic of mine quality is real bad because the pic was taken by my phone but you can see the glue crap and so on.... I am not a heavy rider and wise guys are heavily gusseted so i dont know how they snapped. I went for a touchhop and as i hit my wheel the forks just exploded into pieces, it scared me to death. I was lucky enough to walk away with only a cut hand though :turned: . Upon further inspection i discovered lots of little cracks around the gusseted areas near the crown, i am dissapointed with onza forks, as most people are (the new models are better though). biketrialler
Seriously, if you dont think its a problem and that you know better than people like myself and the other guy who took the same risk and then had them snap, then fine go ahead and ride, but youre a fool. You dont seem to understand that the forks falling away even going off of a curb (I was wheelswapping up a curb actually on the way to another riding spot) is seriously dangerous. Oh and you said you just got a disc - they put even more braking force on the fork crown so erm yeah do as you will.

No price limmit. Edited May 28, 2005 by JT!
ScotchDave
What about the new echo forks? this can't happen because the steerer and crown are one piece, I think. :turned:

ScotchDave
The hi fis are stock forks, I didn't realise that the teams were a downsized version of them. Edited May 28, 2005 by div
JT!
Well teams it is then, well, the old teams (easy) what ever they are called.
