Nick Garland
Right. Ive half broken another rim and wanted to see what people reccomend. Ive had a drilled BMF, flat spooted that, I've had an Echo and I've flat spotted it and as far as i remember I havent even gone big, no drops over 5ft, biggest gap is about 8ft etc. Im tempted to get another Echo rim as I like them but I havent tried the hog or ronnie so I thought a poll would help me decide. So comments on the rim you use if its not up there would be cool too, as I know Koxx rims are the same as hogs without eyeletts. Alexxx
nick the only reason its f**cked is from when your mech went into the wheel down a hill and nearly ripped out the spokes. Alex
guineasmithpig
go ronnie. nice n deep, so resists flat spots really well (or so i've found) and make sure aits built nice n tight, and retensioned after bedding in. unless u get some one who can pretension spokes properly (Y) smithy
Tartridge
I've had an Echo and I've flat spotted it ← Who built it? ← Me. Can't do anything about flat spots though. Nick, did you have the newer version of the rim? 'nick the only reason its f**cked is from when your mech went into the wheel down a hill and nearly ripped out the spokes.' Doesn't sound too promising though (Y)
Davetrials
Im APPAULING heavy when riding, ive got a dx32 CHEESE rim, and the guy who built it is by far the best wheel builder know off, my wheel is not buckled nor is it flat spotted, 8ft gaps to SEVEAR(SP?) heavy landings 12ft drop. (Y) I run about 18psi, so im constantly rimming out I blame the wheel build. Or the fact ur spokes ate your mech, Ive heard lots of GOOD things about ads wheel builds, but i lost trust when a mate of mine killed his apparently STRONG d521, in a very short period of time. Who was it? Brand new or used rim? What spokes? And how many dents did the rim suffer? Cheers
Luke Drewery
Ive never heard of anybody flat spot a BMF, they are pretty tough... I would personally go for the echo or ronnie, both made of hard alloy, strong enough for trials, light, look good and if you grind your rim they give a good braking surface afterwards. Avoid koxx if you tend to go through rims as they are made of cheese, although i run one (Y)
Nick Garland
Me. Can't do anything about flat spots though. Nick, did you have the newer version of the rim? 'nick the only reason its f**cked is from when your mech went into the wheel down a hill and nearly ripped out the spokes.' Doesn't sound too promising though (Y) ← Ive not a clue if its a newer version? Its the one with the laser cut out bits. Newest I know of and yes my mech decided to go kaboom down a hill and ripper 4 spokesout, I replaced them and I shall re-tension it today. The wheelbuild itself was great and when I get my new rim I'll deffinatly be getting it build by Adam again.
Tartridge
Theres a new 'new' Echo rim you see... they used to be approx 750g, deep brushed sidewalls, but they now have changed to a 600g rim with machined sidewals. Good luck with replacing the spokes... give me a shout if you need any tips (Y) 262mm for the drive side.
