Mr Motivator
Yesterday I was playing with tyre pressures, I usualy have about 23.5psi in my tyres back and front and find this a great mix between not rimming/grip/bounce. Then I let out loads of air till I got to about 5-10psi. It was great for some trialsy hoppy hoppy and offered awesome grip, only problem was that it would rim like a hairy old man on ledges. I thought to my self, "if only my tyre was this bouncy all the time and then as soon as I landed a gap it wouldnt rim out" Then.. Idea! I remembered that I had a load of polyurathane pipe insulation foam [picture] left over from something or annother that I was doing a long time ago. So, cut it down the middle, got my wheel, took out the tube, cut the foam just short and popped it inside the tyre. Then put the tube back in and the tyre back on the rim. Pump her up to 10psi and away you go! It bounces and grips really well but you cant rim it out, its great! Dont worry weight weenies, it weighs 'nothing'. So get down to b&q and get yourself some, its only about 70p a meter I think or possibly less. Even if you dont like running really soft tyres you could still use it if you dont have good tyres (maxxis, mich (N) ) Anyway, thought youd like to know. Sam. lol (N)
Siders77
Haha, that's well goot matey! I may try it when I can be bothered! (N)
N.Wood
It'll compress over time and become useless, no?
trialsking 55
wouldn't the foam be too thick? pic?
Mr Motivator
It'll compress over time and become useless, no? ← Put more in? Iv been using it for a day and it seems pretty fine. Sketchy
Yeah thats already been done  The foam just compresses after a lil while rendering it useless. Too much hassle to add more foam every ride anyways, well...imo (N)
Sam Nichols
Another good idea bites the Trials-Forum dust  Good work though matey, i'm defo gonna give it a go (N) I rim like a b*****d so anything that stops it (other than smooth riding!) is worth a go! Cheers dude.
CBProductions
If you're happy run with it , cant really do any harm , like the thinking though  Craig
Mr Motivator
Hehe just tested it with my old hot s (N) My bed has a square steel section frame with sharp sides. Just put some left over foam in an old 521 and hot with a tube and slammed it full pelt into it.. no pinch, then did it where there was no foam again propperly full pelt, bending the rim and gave it a pinch. Im gonna bring my hot s back from the dead!
Phatmike
Im gonna bring my hot s back from the dead! (N) ← But they grip like oil. Not a bad idea, i've got some blue stuff like that under my bed. May give it a try (not that i need to (N)), untill i get my new rim (Cough* Ali C!) and a new tyre and run tubeless again. Mike.
Tartridge
Good idea, but its too soft, sorry. I tried it about 4 years ago.
Luke Drewery
From what other people have said, it doesnt sound like it would work, but if it does then it isnt a bad idea. I think this is what tra must have done when he had his zoo boa then when he moved to echo, as his tyres looked like they were pumped to 5psi yet he still went huge without seeming to have any puncture problems
Mr Motivator
I used to like my hot s mike :P Been for a propper ride on it today. Seems ok and not too soft, i pumpd her up to 15 psi now which is a bit better than 4 i guess :P Seems fine on ledges and rails :) Also; The tyre doesnt roll off the rim as easy (Y) You can stick pins in it :S No pinch ;) No rim :- Yeah, just incase you dont understand or are interested;
Dr. Nick Riviera
of course you would know all about rimming sam wouldnt you
Sam Nichols
Just looking at that pic, I can't understand how it prevents pinch punctures? The pinch happens when the tube is squished between the tyre and rim... yet that pipe lagging only protects the top of the tyre... I'm lost (Y)

I'm lost ;) ← Think harder (Y) The tube pinches when it is compressed between a sharp edge or rock and the rim. Maxxis tyres dont pich because they have thick softish sidewalls that cusion the tube, therefore the foam will help :S
Tomm
the foam will help (Y) ← Right. Take your tyre off. Look at the foam. It's now about a millimeter thick and no longer spongy at all. Sorry, it's a nice idea but it doesn't work...
Mr Motivator
As a matter of fact im sat downstairs with my wheel right here as i just took my hub appart.. Il take the tyre off........ 2mins later.. Nah its fine, gone a little flatter not much though. Maybe Im using something harder?
squince
It sounds like good thing to do for a comp, but i suppose you dont rim out in comps :S . The grip would be good though (Y)" cheers andy Edited May 25, 2005 by squince

Maybe Im using something harder? ← Surely you can see you've just made Toms point... you only put the lagging in on monday and it has already started compressing! Will probably last about a week at a time.. at most.
STEVE-0
Or you could just get a 2.5 maxxis minion dual ply, that is, to my knowledge, impossible to pinch! Grips like a homeless chav and harldly rims either with 25psi. And you still get bounch! Probably weighs the same too. (Y) :S ;)
munkee
2.5 maxxis minion dual ply ← Hearing that gets me moist every time
Tomm
Or you could just get a 2.5 maxxis minion dual ply, that is, to my knowledge, impossible to pinch! ← It is not Tomm-proof (Y) (Well the 2.35 isn't anyway)
Phatmike
Hearing that gets me moist every time ← "60a Maxpro Compound". Oh, there we go, dry as a bone. (Y)" And I can't believe hardly noone puts a load of talcum powder/ground chalk in their tyres, it just won't pinch like that! (With a maxxis :S) Mike.
