North/south Divide

Royaltrials

Recommended Posts

Only to the extent of terminology.

Steven Atkinson (trials rider, if any one down sounth knows him) has moved up to Yorkshire, and he sort of has names for a few things, like 'slacker gearing' and things like that which i didn't at first know what he was talking about. But i don't realy think there is any type of divide really.

Although, people from the south tend to be better at street UCI type stuff, where as us up north tend to be better at natural, when i say better i mean in a general comparason.

Interesting topic though.

I definatly think there is...

But i'm biased and think the southerners are more friendly (on the whole anyways) and the northerners are alot better at natural.

I also dislike the amount of bumming Neil T and CLS get from the northerners.

There are alot more riders up North.

Southerners are better at UCI style street.

But it's all perspective i guess?

Let's not go putting people in categories. Some people are twats about bumming good riders, but I'm sure there are the fair share of them dahn sarf?

I wouldn't have said there are as many 'bummers' down south, but then i'm biased and there's no way of measuring it...

And agreed, 'northerners' is a very boad term, and as i'm about as southern as it gets, there are ALOT of people that are northerners compared to me.

This whole thread is about putting people into catagories though?

Seems to me that down south we have London and Bristol as the best places to ride, with Poole, Southampton, Ipswich and Portsmouth all being ok. From what I'e heard, up north there are more places that are very good to ride.

However, I've never been further north than Leicester (and never will) so I have no way of proving my theory. Oh yeah one last thing, riders from the north seem to be better, not sure why.

I would have to say that Northeners seem to have bigger balls, and southeners are more technical.

As for the move names, you can go anywhere, and they will most likly have different names to moves.

ie - Speaking to Action Dave at the DJ ride, asked if he could do a move in Worthing terminology, and he didnt understand, but describing the move, he goes "ah yea you mean a ......."

as i'm about as southern as it gets

Hate to be the one to break it to you, but there is alot more ot the country south of London, Unless im living in the sea................

southerners are more UCI smooth streety style.(boon an few others are totally unique though)

and northerners are natural/comp or rough ass street riders IMO.

I have never noticed an ability difference though.

i prefer riding with northerners.........

i think there isnt as much difference in trials as in some sports eg rugby (league north; union south - until recently). i think everyone has a bit of envy as to the terrain available to ride in other areas,

Your northern  Heheh, anything above cambridge is northern  thats the way i see it anyways

cambridge, blimey that is far north, some people i met while in london didnt even know where yorkshire was, and their view of north was past the watford gap.

Lol does that mean im on the south coast then?

About the alot more natural in the north thing I agree there is possibly some natural but nothing specail

Another trials rider from colchester (not on here) believed that crates were natural!

Thanks,

Callum

Ive always had this differnece in my head, it has just never been discussed before. I always thought there were many more "street" riders down south, of the bmxy variety??? But the amout of street trials riders was roughly the same? The north seems much more naturally aswell, but thats by default i spose. And finally the northerners are much funnier :P

Honestly, if any rider feels like coming down(or up) then feel free or give us a shout and we'll ride with you!

(Im hoping smithy will stick up for us here!!)

yeah!!! midlanders gotta take attacks from all sides!! need the strong trials skills we do!

i think the riders from midlands area are always really cool people too. on local rides, everyones chilled out. no real competitiveness, but everyone pushes each other onto greater things. tis a cool place.

and how did i get grouped with danny butlord and poyser? :)
