Sticky Freewheel

Recommended Posts

Recently my ACS freewheel has become slightly less easier to rotate, like when i push the bike along, the cranks now spin aswell since the freewheel is sticking a bit. Its not much, just a bit annoying......

Im assuming that its because theres some dirt in my freewheel, but will it actually affect the performance of it? Because i really dont want to go to the effort of cleaning it out if i don't really need to?

Thanks

It could well be that the little washery/spacery bit the other side of the lockring has got a bit mashed up and it's affecting the freewheel. The ACS Fat on my BMX is doing that at the moment :deej:

Either way, it's your face you're looking after, so I'd strip it down :P Just do it carefully, and it shouldn't explode (Y)

The best thing to do when you get an Acs Claws is to cut/file the tabs off and get it spot welded so it will deffo not unscrew and screw up

Or, you can already get them like that new (Y)"

Anyway, ive seen loads like this, even ENO's and there hasn't been a problem, so I think yours shouldn't be a problem, unless it really starts to come loose, your best to check it every day, make sure it's tight, then nothing can get inside, and you won;t damage the internals. Plus it won't skip as much when tight.

Eno's tend to be like that when they're new, but mainly 'cos they've got pretty high tolerances so everything's a fairly snug fit. After a while though the springs, pawls and bearings bed in and they aren't super tight.
