Stripping Paint

Recommended Posts

Hey.

I am going to strip my frame as the paint is scratching way too easy. So I know I need nitromors etc but I want to get a brushed effect like on Koxx frames as it will matchs my forks this way.

How do I get this effect?

Also should I laquer it after to preserve it? Also how much nitromors would I need to do just a frame and roughyl how much from B&Q or a similar shop?

Thanks.

Nick

You need:

1 standard size bottle of nitromors

1 toothbrush

1 wire scouring pad

1 can of spray laquer

1) Coat the frame thickly in nitromors

2) Leave for half an hour

3) Use the tooth brush to remove the obviously bubbling paint, it should just fall off.

4) Use more nitromors on the little bits of paint that havn't come off.

-Depending on the factory finish of the metal will determine whether or not you need to continue with step 5. If the metal is already brushed, move on to step 6-

5) Use the scouring pad to polish the frame in the direction you want the brush effect to go (normally around the tubing, so this could take some time) untill it looks like the same effect as your brushed forks.

6) Wash and dry the frame to remove any paint or metal before laquering.

7) Spray a thin coat of laquer onto you frame, and leave for an hour. Spray another thin coat, and leave for an hour. Repeat until you have 3-4 coats, and then leave in a warm place for 24 hours, to ensure a good, hard finish.
