pogonation
Hi I am putting a magura hs33 lever on a magura marta disc brake and i am wondering if this lever would actually be any good with this disc??? :S
Tartridge
The lever would still be the same. But your brake would be rubbish.

Prawny Baby
basicly, due the the relatively small movment of a disc brake piston compared to an hs33, disc levers have much much smaller master pistons, the hs33 lever has a 14mm piston, which will displace far more fluid, but for a given force on the lever, will put far less pressure on the disc.... think about it, stab yourself with a tin of beans, then with a pencil, both with the same force.... due to the larger area of the bean tin, it wont hurt, the pencil has a far smaller area so for the same force itll apply much more pressure.... been there, done that hs33 levers on discs give possibly the stiffest feeling brake imaginable, but almost no power whatsoever! thechink
my mate tim done it with a louise caliper and the brake was well good. so good infact that i bought the brake off of him. mwhahahahha thechink
Prawny Baby
it may feel good, but its never going to have the same power as a louise lever.... if u want that hs33 feel just get an old 2k louise lever and put an hs33 lever blade into it! Felix
I tried it with a HS33 lever and a Louise caliper. The brake had no power at all, no matter how hard I pulled the lever :S Edited May 12, 2005 by Felix
D-L-B
It does work, you just need to get the right calliper. I used a HS33 master cylinder on a Julie calliper. The Julie Levr has 14mm master like HS33 and the calliper pistons are larger diameter. I've now got a Louise master on it which has an even smaller cylinder and it's rather beasty. bluecatracingcat
Sorry I haven't read the whole post... But I have tried this and it doesn't work, the leverage is all wrong, lever like a rock even with a bit of air bled in. But if you realy want your hs33 lever then use a julie caliper, the ratio is about spot on. I use a Shimano deore 525 lever with a magura marta caliper and that rocks but I couldn't say it is better that the marta lever, I just had some bit in my box. Hope this helps. aaron_trials _247
does this mean that we could run a disc lever on our rim brakes to give a better feel to it Dan
tank_rider
does this mean that we could run a disc lever on our rim brakes to give a better feel to it Dan ← more power, not better feel, it would be pretty damn squishy, and the pads would need to be setup right next to the rim due to the reduced amount of travel. Wayne-king
if u want that hs33 feel just get an old 2k louise lever and put an hs33 lever blade into it! ← yeah, that's what i was gonna suggest. the Brisa team used to do that. there was a pic somewhere on the net, but i cant find it :S
picki
craig scott did it too i finks...was well mushy if i remember? spose your gonna see if you can bleed it with wate too? thats a question? can you bleed maggy discs with h2o?
tank_rider
craig scott did it too i finks...was well mushy if i remember? can you bleed maggy discs with h2o? ← yes, so long as you never brake for more than 5 secs at a time, as you would boil the water. Tartridge
Nah, its not too bad, doesn't get too hot in trials. I think the Coust lads used to do it.
