Danny
Bin the P4 and get a socket 939 athlon 64 which allows upgrade to dual core processors when they become available. Bin the soundcard too the onboard is totally sufficient for those speakers. Bin the modem. And that lot shouldnt cost more than about £1000 i wouldnt have thought. george_seamons
I wouldn't bother with that much RAM either. There is no prgram out there that will utilise that much, and in some cases, it will slow it down. I'm with Danny on the AMD's too, I've always preferred them over Intels. DO NOT pay for Microsoft Works. It is absolute gash. You can download Open Office for free off the internet, and it is much, much better. thesubway
Yeah you dont need an onboard modem for broadband so why not.

MrMonkey
I don't really wanna build it myself, as last time I did that I put my heatsink and fan on the wrong way and nearly destroyed the processor :S But I shall give it ago. Danny
The new amds are easy to build the heatsink goes on 10x easier :S
MrMonkey
Oooo, So how much would I save about if I did it myself like shopping around on average? I don't wanna go and get the same stuff because I know some things you get really overcharged for but yeah. From my quote to building it myself how much would I save? Also what do you think of this? And if I got it would there be anything that would need upgrading?? http://komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=108498&cks=speak Edited May 10, 2005 by MrMonkey

MrMonkey
Another thing, If I gave someone the money would they be able to build one up for me etc? I don't want someone who has 1 post and no-one knows who they are like. But yeah trustworthy and knows their stuff. Money for parts and some money for themselves for building it :S

george_seamons
Ooooo, what sort of money would we be talking?? Like really high uber spec type machine? And how much for your services?? ← What ever the price of the system is, plus say £50 for sevices and pretty much any piece of software you want.. Well within your budget though. The spec Danny posted seemed pretty spot on :-
