Village Idiot
The hosing on the rear brake (Magura HS33) has snapped (see picture) and I was wondering if anybody knew what I'd need to fix it? I'm guessing I'll just need a new piece of hose (It's the crossover part I think it's called?). Is there anything else I'll have to do like bleed the brakes or refill them or anything because I seem to have lost quite a bit of oil. Impacted.
You need new hosing (maybe that braided hope stuff if you have the money) if not the normal black stuff is good too. You'll need to re-bleed the brake aswell. Edited May 9, 2005 by Impacted.
Village Idiot
Ok, thanks for that. Just wondering, does anybody know how to bleed the brake - I'm guessing I'll have to buy a bleed kit or something - would it be cheaper for a bike shop to do it? Biff
NO problem mate, your lucky i made a topic about bleeding a brake perfect method below: submurge your lever at a higher level in water and your piston pots at a lower level (this will allow gravity to do its job) unscrew bolts, and place your finger over the hole in your level and compress ur lever blade allowing the water to seep through the hoses untill you can see bubbles coming out of the bolt hole on the bottom pistons, keep doing this until no more air bubbles are coming through. Finally tighten bolts STILL UNDER WATER! your brake then should have ABSOLUTLY NO AIR! what so ever Thanks Biff Edited May 9, 2005 by Biff
philking
You can also do it the old fashoned way - using a bleed kit and magura mineral oil. Bleed kits (mini service kits) can be purched from here along with new magura hose. But beware, kits do not come with instructions, and bleeding maguras is a hassle. If you dont know how, i would suggest you get your LBS to do it.
Pork Pie
It's pretty easy really Phil. Just download the manual from the Magura site and follow it step by step. No need for a bike shop. And buying a kit is worth it :S Also, I've found bleeding with water to give a much nicer lever feel over magura oil. Much faster responce. Ooh, with the bleed kit, you'll get the barbed fittings and olives that you'll need to sort out your crossover (Y)
