trialsguru
okies so has anyone used a maxxis sigle ply tyre on the rear? im wanting the grip of the maxxis and am willing to sacrifice the pucture proofing for the weight save. do they only come in the hard compound? whats the puncture resistance like? is it so crap that its not worth saving the weight? thanks pete
Tartridge
Must say, I've bashed mine pretty hard quite a few times without puncturing... However, its nothing like as good as the 2-plys. They do come in the decent compounds. And theyre pretty cheap as well (Y)
trialsguru
whats not as good as the 2 plys? puncture resistance? have you ever flatted with it?
ben_travis
my honest opinion is that i wouldnt run a single ply on the rear without a high pressure, now for example i run 18-20psi with a 2.5 double ply highroller and have punctured the once. now its a v.slw puncture but i know a single ply wouldnt have taken the landing. now for the front its a different story, a superb tyre with all round puncture resistance, as i dont run the tyre as low psi on the fron probs around 30psi. please dont get a single ply rear unless ur a weight weenie......adam likes pies remember so if he can keep weight on his bike down he is happier all round (Y) ben
club_card
i run a single ply on the front, and have pinched 2 times, never pinched on the rear with dualply though! i rekon if you used the singleply on the rear you'll be forever pinching (Y)
TomN
Just add another tyre inside if your scared of getting a punture, that's what I did when I had a 2.2 Hot S on the rear and that's what am gunna do again when my White Tiger finishes and am getting a single ply just because of the price. Am cheap.
Tom Booth
Surely runing 2 tyres defeats the object of trying to save weight?
TomN
True but am mostly on about if you're going for the cheaper option. Or get another light weight tyre inside maybe?
HarshRider
i ran a maxis st on the rear (single ply) im fairly harsh with some of my landings! yet i only pintched it twice altogether while running it for about 6 months! maybe awhile longer! was fine just wore out to quickly! i ran depending my mood from 20 - 45 psi (Y)"
aust
single ply for the front... get a nice double ply on the back.. shouldnt be worrying to much about weight because the grip is so fricking immense !
colly
i wouldnt worry to much about a bit of weight it will soon build up with all the patches on a single ply :- psssssssssss
