ScotchDave
Evening, not really sure where this should go, but I have a set of manitou stance flows, and they started making a sort of clunky sound if I compress them. As in I'm standing off the bike and press down lightly, or just drop the front end of the bike from a few inches. So I was wondering if anyone knows what it is and how to fix it? TheMunn
Sound's kind of like the oil isn't moving fast enough to go through the first few millimeter's of travel but then there could be problem's with seal's or some of the internal's of the fork, if they are still under warranty then deffinatly get them sorted. tank_rider
check your oil levels, may have dropped a tiny bit and so you arent getting any damping for the first couple of mm then the pistons hit the oil making the bacging noise.
Waynio
more sounds like top out, the little bit of travel at the top of forks when ther yunder no pressure at all, then when compressed fast a little bit make a knocking noise. on fox forx its due to oil not being around the sponge seal in the top usually a night upsuide down is ok for them BUT manitous and such forth as they have poorer seals you cannot leave upside down, try preloading the fork a little bit?or pumping them a bit and seeing if when the oil circulates around the fork that it may stop, its not guaranteed to but its worth a try. the only forks to have in this world and especially england as a country is Fox OR Marzocchi :( :) by far the best in this country, due to good seals and quality of materials etc etc. manitous are made of plastic :) inside any way, rock shox might aswell be the same :( poor build quality. yet the fox forx assembled in america and Marzocchi in Italy :) :D top bannana, just as we have always said its an italian job!" monkey_pork
Have you jumped them, or hit them hard with the travel wound down ? If you have, then I'd be wondering if it might not be some damage to the Rapid Travel Wind Down mechanism. I know that it's a bit of a different mechanism to the Sherman's 'Rapid-Travel' flick malarkey, but I've heard plenty of fairly tragic tales of Sherman's being compressed whilst set at their shortest travel setting (that's the lock-out position you'd use for climbing if you could be bothered by such things) and the forks being well and truly done in as a consequence. (Y) (People passed this friendly warning onto me - when I bought mine).
