snatch
Hi chaps/chapesses I've been riding seriously for about 15 years in all the different areas of cycling. However, after separating my shoulder on Sunday I've decided to knock dirt jumping and downhill on the head and concentrate on trials(I'll keep doing the others though - xc, eoad, enduro and maybe some 'shore) I've been away from the scene for a while (last time I looked Ashton rode a Beast of the East) and so am a little confused as to whats what. I'm going to be riding stock and have about 500 to 600 beans to spend. The Onza T-rex looks good but wondered what else I could have for that sort of mula. I'll be riding street a lot but also maybe some comps (I did an Essex one about 6 years ago!) BTW - like the validation idea - confused me to start with but I can well see the benefits. Cool site Cheers Wil
Spikenipple
To be perfectly honest, I think it would be a good idea to try and locate some riders in your locality, and if they'll be so kind, have a go on their bikes, so you can get the feel for different styles and types of trials bike; Otherwise you could buy a trials bike, not like it at all and then lose money and time selling it afterwards. For £500-600, the T-Rex is a brilliant option, i'm pretty sure it's common opinion that the T-Rex is a really nice bike for beginners or pros alike. Edit: Crap, just re-read all of that and realised you've done trials before (Y) In that case, get a T-Sex anyway, or i'll just shutup, you just ignore my post and I go to bed... Da Bomb
Hi guys I don't want to sound like a complete noob here but what does xc stand for? thanks (Y)
Simon
Cross Country. Ride up a hill, ride back down. White route (beginners) is often referred to as a XC track backwards, as its just riding over stones, little cracks, maybe a small stream. TheCircus
Personally I would look for a second hand Planet-X Zebdi. Just have a look on ebay for a full bike build. Or, alternatively; Buy a second hand Zebdi frame for around £100. Get some second hand forks like pashleys - £30-40 Buy new wheels, I reccommend Hope hubs (XC or Mono) on mavic D521, buy from Tartybikes and get an ace wheel build from Tatry himself - Around £200. Buy a pair of Magura HS33's - try ebay, they go for around £60 a pair. For cranks, I would reccommend some second hand middleburns preferably in good condition - about £70. Then just buy some normal parts and this should come to about £500-550. The zebdi, in my opinion would be a much more street orientated bike, while still being a worthy frame for the occasional competition. It just give you alot more options when riding street, like manuals. And as everyone knows manuals are the coolest move ever, and ever will be. SQuiT-man
When you say street, do you mean manuals and bunnyhops and spins, or do you mean just riding in an environment with a purist-trials type style? The t-rex would be really nice for competitions and general trials, but the main things it would be hard to do are manuals, and slightly bunnyhops (although perhaps to a lesser degree), due to its geometry. The koxx sounds like a great option if its a nice spec and cheap. px zebdis are always a nice way to go too, there are a lot around on ebay and they ride nice in general.
