James_Porter
its harder to start on a low wall, my first hook was 8 pallets ← dont listen to chai. he does hook to side hop cause he is a strange boy (Y) best way to do it is pedaling. ride up to it, try and get as much height as you can before your pedal hits and jump as soon as you hit. Ali C
I would think the ali (Y) bongo would make a nice hooking frame due to the clearence the bb has.

fairy elephants
can i do it with my alibongo frame or do i need a longer bike? (Y) ← Well I have been learning it recently on my 1020 leeson, so i should hope it is possible on an alibongo :P I have been riding with Andy P, and trying to copy his technique, but it's so far not happening too great. I get the back wheel to bounce off the wall, but no where near high enough to get onto the top of the wall (Y) Ahwell, keep trying i guess. :S
CH!P
They're impossible on vertical walls for me (Y) I can do 7 pallets with one leaning almost vertical at the bottom, but that's it.
Spikenipple
I managed to almost do a 2.5ft front hook up a slightly sloped wall yesterday, but i can only manage to get it to bashguard. (read as: I suck.) What I do is to get the front wheel up i push up and back (read: go to manual) then just chuck my weight forward to unweight the back as much as possible. The two guys I ride with (also on mods) have got hold of it really well, one of them via the method i described above and the other by bunny hopping (he can bunny hop up a 3ft wall and make it look smooooth (Y) Edited April 29, 2005 by Spikenipple

Rossi
What Chai said. EDIT: Also no ones mentioned about making sure both wheels hit at the same time. ← Both wheels hit at exactly the same, and if you hit them at the same time, your forks will flex, you keep your front brake on, your body should be close to your bike and you should try and land with your weight forward, so you are ready for flicking it up. ← (Y)
cant_ride
yeh chais got a good tech there... thats how i learnt it first of all. When I had my LB 1065 ( hooking machine ) I could do about 5'5" with a big bunny hop and a fast run in... but now on my 1045 i cant do it for crap?? oddness .. it really is about confidence.. I think most people know how to do it and probably could but the thought of going even faster into a high, solid vertical wall isnt too appealing. oli
Matt Burrows
well said  ← Whats wrong with bunnyhops? What Chai said. EDIT: Also no ones mentioned about making sure both wheels hit at the same time. ← I actually hit my back wheel very slightly before the front, seems to help for some reason. aust
some people cant bunnyhop.... its easier just to peddle into it FULL STOP ! funny how the best riders in the world peddle into it... because its the best and msot effective way ! Phil.
Ali C
I said it was cheating, mainly for the fact I cant bunnyhop :"> I do feel if you can bunnyhop its far easier to do it that way than pedaling, I prefer to learn things the hard (would say proper, but there isnt one) way, it might mean I spend longer learning and not get results fast, but it pays off in the end. Of course Benito and co bunnyhop, they are on mods! They bunnyhop so easy they are nearly all the way up before they need to hook.
IOLO
i could hook ALOT better, on the IOLO mk4 than i can on my monty.. i think its a level BB vrs a 72mm high BB. but i do bunny hop as well....lol but i can hook some natural stuff pedaling quite well. but overall i still think that a full big vertical wall is very difficult.! (only done it twice)
Matt Burrows
Lol. Ali and Aust, you said it was cheating, but also said its harder to do it bunnyhop on stock. Surely that means its more skillfull to bunnyhop :S". Phil got it spot on, they're both usefull in different situations so why not learn both . I prefer bunnyhopping if I can mainly because my hub slipped trying a pedal hook once and it hurt...
