MrMonkey
Ok, on Half Life 2 I get around 80-100fps constantly but on a 2 year old game called Planetside I get a measly 30-50fps if I'm lucky. Comp Spec is 3200+ XP Athlon 1024MB of PC3200 RAM 80GB HDD with about 50GB left nVidia GeForce 5900XT Gfx Card Anything else you need to know please let me know and I'll post, also any ideas that could solve my problems would be greatly appreciated. Also I run HL2 at 1280x960 full screen and Planetside in a window at 1024x768 just so it runs that bit better.
Smo™
It could be that the game is too old? It may not be compatible with your graphics card.

MrMonkey
Have you tryed running it in windows 98/other settings? ← Don't even have the slightest how to do that (Y) But yeh, I'm running XP, so how do I change it to that? Or is it not possible?

Tomm
I can't see it is it anywhere else? ← Make a shortcut to the game anywhere (E.g. the desktop, and then right-click the shortcut). There should be a tab for a compatibility mode (Y)
Danny
Probably because its a direct x 8 game and your card will run direct x 9 games better than it will 8. Are you sure that anything silly like antialiasing is switched off? (I have a fx5900xt too (Y) oc'ed to 505/774)

When on the compatability tab thing with XP what do I want to set it as?? ← It depends how old it is. If it's a Windows XP game, then it won't do any good. But if it's a pre-XP era game, it might. But it's mostly just for really old stuff (Like 10 years old or something). Are you trying to run the game in software mode or OpenGl or DX8/9? Should be in the graphics options or something. Danny
Install the 'coolbits' registry entry (google it) and then you can oc it in your nvidia settings (Y)
Spikenipple
You shouldn't have a problem with FPS unless you turn the settings up (Y) The 5**0XT series are the approximate equivalent of the ATi 9***SE series, which are the worst performing of the 9*** series, meaning that the XT cards can't have too much expected of them. There won't be a problem with the DX compatability as the game is DX8 and DX9 cards are backwards compatible with all versions of DX (even though any cards before the nVidia 6*** series are only DX8.1). The only thing i can think of is to close down all background programs before playing the game and turn the graphics settings down in the game, an overclock's performance gain will be negligible to say the least.... Hope this helps :( Edit: No fan-boy comments please :o Edited April 28, 2005 by Spikenipple
Danny
nVidias XT range aint half as bad as the ATI SE range heres some specs.... GeForce FX 5950 U.....................475 950 256-bit GeForce FX 5900 U.....................450 850 256-bit GeForce FX 5900 .......................400 850 256-bit GeForce FX 5900 XT...................300 700 256-bit (Had Mine Running at 505 / 774) so with a little overclocking its only the memory thats slower than the other cards and my core speed has surpassed even the FX5950 Ultra with the same 256bit memory interface. Where as ATI Radeon 9800 XT..........................412 730 256-bit Radeon 9800 Pro........................380 680 256-bit Radeon 9800..............................325 580 256-bit Radeon 9800 SE.........................380 675 128-bit Radeon 9600 XT.........................500 600 128-bit Radeon 9600 Pro........................400 600 128-bit Radeon 9600.............................325 400 128-bit Radeon 9600 SE.........................325 365 64-bit In both cases you can see that ATI's SE range have half the memory interface of the main cards (Y)
Spikenipple
That's fair enough, I swear the XTs had a 128-bit memory interface though, which is why they're so much cheaper...oh well (Y) Anyway, the point i'm trying to put forward is that i used to be able to run Planetside on medium settings at 800x600 on a 9200SE with 128mb memory at around 40fps (Y) So I reckon that the turdiness of the performance is down to graphics settings. MrMonkey, did you have AA and AF off in Planetside settings or on the nVidia gfx menu settings?
