Siders77
Hey guys, well, my problem is that I got some Heatsink pads from Steve a while back. I waited until my Coustellier pads had worn out then I put the Heatsinks on with a nice new grind. When I was out riding they would just not lock! I thought at first hey needed bedding in so I rode round dragging the brake. They still didn't get any better! So what do you guys think it could be? P.S, Yes, the pads are set up square to the rim! :turned: EDIT: I hate this keyboard! >_< Edited April 23, 2005 by Sid@yate_trials
Punkrider
I have a set of the white Heatsinks on a smooth rim, and they work really well >_< Could it be something to do with the grind? Adam
Will Arnold
any chance of oil/grease getting on your grinding disk? or your rim for that reason? maybe the pads got contaminated? just a suggestion Will

Siders77
any chance of oil/grease getting on your grinding disk? or your rim for that reason? maybe the pads got contaminated? just a suggestion Will ← Humm, it's possible. But highly unlikely! I took the pads off and sanded them down a little when they didn't work, but no change >_< I made sure that there was NO oil or anything on my rim. :turned:

tipsy Jock
What may work better is a hand degreaser like swarfega, Use exactly the same as fariy liquid, may do the job. Pete
ZeroMatt
I had a pair for a while, they were good brand new then after a little bit of time they wouldn't lock properly so i put tar on rims and today backings came off slightly annoying. that NBR dude
I got one of the first sets as steve asked me to test them, and I had the exact same problem with them. They had no lock or hold to them, and I couldnt even make it up stuff that I could do easily before. From what steve tells me, quite a lot of people have said similar things about the locking performance of them.

Heatsink
Just come back from a weeks holiday in the Lake District, and just catching up with things. Did have to take time out to make a few phone calls to push the incredibly overdue mould along, and finally it should be finished this week thank god. On the white pads, after a few months of them being out, the majority of people have really loved them. Some people did tell me early on that they didn't work well for them, but such an overwhelming number of the others were completely raving about them. When mounted into one of my Vee backings they seem to give 100% totally reliable performance, and I've not heard a single negative word back from any Vee users. In fact they've been found to work so well, that you have to be careful not to grind too harshly, and to definately avoid going anywhere near your front wheel with the angle grinder as those on a recent SM ride will testify! Another confusing aspect is that some people told me that they wore quickly and others told me that they wore really slowly. Reading about people's experiences about every other pad out there you also hear conflicting experiences for each one. One things for sure, I will only be making pads available again once the compound is made to a much tighter spec than my previous supplier was providing. Although this was good, it can be tightened up, and as a body of evidence I've built up is pointing towards an ideal spec, a compromise between grip/softness/wear, hitting this more accurately and consistantly will only improve things further. Brisa
Sounds good Steve. I am still running my last set of Batch A's with a grind thier whole life (start of heatsink pads?) They're have little left in them hence the PM about some new ones. Always loved the performance and had no problems with them falling off the backings (14 stone and not smooth)
gazmaz03
Hello all well where do i start, bout half a year ago as i can remember i brought a set of yellow heatsinks the BATCH B ones for you that don't no, well anyway i ran them on a grind which was not that good although after bout a weeks ride they were amazing. I think they needed a little bedding in, that might be what u need to do. Now i have got a new bike and i now run Vs which work better then my HS33s did in my opinion. I have the white pads and run them on the same rim as my HS33 which did have a grind, but slowly the grind has wore away as i have had my v-brake and it just seems to get better, I always get a nice squeak noise which i no it works. Sorry about the rant (Y) I also think pads work different on different rims just a suggestion, they also work different with or without a grind. Just experiment Gaz (Y) P.S hope I was a little help. ZeroMatt
I'd worry more about the backings coming off the pads, because that seems to happen quite often. Matt

Matt ← Yeah, so many people have have complained about the backings coming away :shifty: Think of the amount of pads that Steve has sold, and then look at the number of pads that the backing has pulled away from the pad...not so many now is it! somberlaine
If everything is fine on your bike then perhaps you are getting flex in your rear triangle, sapping the energy from your brakes and causing them not to lock. You running a brake booster? Michael
