Hi, just wondering if someone could post an exploded view of a chris king iso / classic rear hub. or even a digramatic drawing that shows how they work!

i ask as i still dont exactly no how they work, people have tryed to explain to me, and even though i am a very mechanically minded person, i cant understand what they mean! I get the same problem with car Gear boxes! ,even though i re-built my own car engine myself and understand them to a T ! i cant get me head round the g/box! I think i have difficulty with things that contain ratchits and cogs!! lol

Thanx

Ry

As you said, it's a very difficult thing to explain. So I won't try. Here's an exploded diagram, but if you can fathom how they work just from that you deserve a gold star to say the least. Anyway, HERE it is (PDF format).

The best way would be to get someone to show you, or see a video of the mechanism. I think Tartridge made one a while ago, but I don't know if it's still around. I guess you'll have to wait for him to post >_<

It's very simple, you have a serrated washer in your hub, with 72 serrations on it. You have another attached to your drive shell via a helical spline. The two rings are pushed together by a spring, but because the serrations are facing the same way to one another (\\) they slip over each other as you freewheel, however when you pedal the helical spline pushes the drive ring attached to your drive shell, so that the serrrations make lock together.
