Honestly, either build your own or get a mate or someone who can. It is so much cheaper! You will save youself loads of money! If you have to buy from a shop though, dont even consider tiny. Have a look round the next for some good deals.

Not really, I want at least double that on my new computer. It's surprising how quickly and easily you can fill 100GB.

larger hard drives are becoming almost necessary when dealing with and editing mini-dv cam footage. I have 140Gb in my media pc and am forced to put all the footage i rip onto dvd's as i keep filling the damn hd's up. Larger hard drives do however mean that you can get complacent and not back stuff up (as you have plenty of room and dont need to archieve stuff as often) resulting in massive losses if you are unfortunate and the hard drive dies.

Exactly, ever since I got my camera and started shooting trials footage I knew I'd need to have a lot of space on my computer, not to mention better video cards and the like (Y)

I wouldn't necesseraly (no idea how you spell that!) say that you're better off building your own - it doesn't always work out cheaper, and you don't have any warranties etc. Although it is a good way to learn more, and may save you money.

I'd say definitely have a look at Aires - you can configure your own system exactly how you want it, and they seem really good value - I just worked one out for a system exactly like yours for £820 (with no monitor).

BUT what I would say is maybe think about only getting some parts from there - say CPU, motherboard, memory... Then buy your own GFX Card, DVD Burner etc as they can be found cheaper elsewhere - although again, its worth the extra £2 or so you end up paying (when you consider adding postamge costs on buying from lots of other places for other components) as it saves you a lot of hassle. Just have a look round basically!

One other thing - I don't really know too much about computers, so correct me if I'm wrong, but is the P4 3.6Ghz REALLy worth the extra £100 you pay for the 3.4?? You could put the 100 to use on a better gfxcard, bigger hd, more ram, bigger monitor, better sound etc..

Hope some of that's of help,

Gavin

Yeah, but for people who don't do any video editting, 120GB or so is probably fine. I've only got 120GB and it suits me fine - I've still got 40GB or so free. I'm not a big downloader either.

If it is £100 difference then no! As you say, spend it on a better graphics card if you want extra performance. Or just pocket the difference.
