Danny
The commentator kept saying first person to do a backflip on a trials bike... Wonder if bongo was first or not (Y)

philking
No not yesterday! (Y) i think the comentator was on about last years bike show :) ← No the comotator said, "first guy to do a backflip on a trials bike" nothing to do with a comp. Ashton wasn't riding last year cos he broke his arm, and the year before that he wasnt riding cos he had a broken back, from trying a backflip in a random skate park. I think the Comp you are refering to was something in MBUK last month (i dont get MBUK so i wouldnt know), but unless it was more of a bike battle style comp as oppose to a traditional comp, i very much doubt it was a comp. Please correct me if i'm wrong
Stan Shaw
Bongo was the first person i know of to flip a trials bike! But well done to Ashton for doing it today anyway!! Gilles, Benito, Hermance, Slinger and CLS were the best to watch today!!! Stan.

Mark W
Bearing in mind his history of the trick, the way that it's still considered fairly 'new' for dirt jumpers (who are people who do this stuff for a living...), the bike he was riding and the way he whipped it out of nowhere, it is pretty impressive. Didn't get to see him do it today, so thanks to 'cleanbikes' for the footage!

Badboy
A back filp in the trials arena, what ever next? They might do back hops in the vert ramp next!!!!!!! Cool, but it isn't mega impressive is it, or is it just me? ← :S"
guineasmithpig
anyone unimpressed, step up to the plate....... respect, mr ashton  smithy Edited April 3, 2005 by guineasmithpig
Badboy
anyone unimpressed, step up to the plate....... respect, mr ashton  smithy ← Im not sayin im not impressed, a back flip isnt easy. I remember when Rich Johnson was tryin to learn one, proper hard. Back flips will always look good, but I think that other things look better. And I dont think it was appropriate in a 'TRIALS' arena, thats all. An the comment i made was jokin around u know!!!!!
Gandalf the Yellow
i saw the backflip on saturday, it was pretty impressive..loads of people cheering after its been done but in my opinion in a bikeshow where about 50% of the people there watching don't know about much about trials its the trick to impress the audiences. a new trick for demo trials riders  ...whatever impresses the audiences Edited April 3, 2005 by StinkEE
Badboy
but in my opinion in a bikeshow where about 50% of the people there watching don't know about much about trials its the trick to impress the audiences. ← So now they think that trials is about back flips an tyre taps? They go watch the vert an see back flips, the bmx street an see them, then trials an oh wow there they are again! Luke Drewery
That is very impressive, especially considering that hes doing it on a trials bike, and he didnt look to get much height. Ashton truly is a legend in the trials world, even if he isnt 'uci'
mad_gavo
weather you find it impressive or not is besides the point after reading the artical in MBUK about it and the history behind it with the injurys etc id say its very impressive and that he is truly pushing himself :S and I am glad to see him do it. :S As he is no longer really a comp rider and more of a demo rider it is a good trick to do as it instantly impresses the crowd weather they know a thing about bikes/trials or not. PS first person to do a backflip on a vinco wins a prize
Simon
So now they think that trials is about back flips an tyre taps? They go watch the vert an see back flips, the bmx street an see them, then trials an oh wow there they are again! ← Even Ashton wasn't happy doing them. He was trying to let the euro's ride before him so they could pull big shit so the backflip wouldn't please so much, but its such a crowd pleaser he did it nearly every show on all 3 days. Must admit, it was pretty rad to see. Its not trials in the slightest, but its a bikeshow, so they have to show off, and which he did royally. Waynio
20" is a kids bike  :S lol KIDDING! but ashton did it on a 1060 bike and he is just an amazing person! All hail king mart if you ask me!!!!!! especially after the brocken back insident!!!just read this months MBUK! thats the character of a guy who just wants to ride a bike have fun and is extremly honest!!!!he is probably the soundest and nicest chap in trials with a few other people i must say...................
