What Do You Want To Be?

I'm thinking about life at the moment. (Y)

I'm really not sure what I want to be when i'm older. I'm thinking about the Police, but not 100% on that one.

I was thinking about Architecture but I went there on work experience and it seemed so LAME!

What do you want to be when you're older? :)

I can't decide what to do.

Apprenticeship, or 6th Form, then Uni? or what!

Anyways. Gimme your opinions etc.

Thanks for 'you time. -=Nick=- :D:P

well im at sixth form currently.... but the plan so far is...

1 - Save loadsa cash during A levels.

2 - After A levels go to the UK with my car and bikes for a year or as long as I can keep myself in food and water for.

3 - Then either go to university, get a job in journalism or get a really high paid but probably boring bank job until about 2011 when I purchase a cycle shop jointly with a guy I know.

4 - Spend rest of my life working in the one place i love with the one thing i love - bikes :)

5 - Eventually set up mail order, couple of shops etc EXPANSION

My careers teachers and teacher type people think i'm being silly and not think its jsut a dream, but hell I AM A DREAMER - however, this is one dream that WILL be realised... maybe i won't ever be good enough at cycling to get paid for it... but one way or another im going to earn money by working in the cycle industry (Y)

apologies for the poor spelling/grammar - i get really excited talking about my plans and type very quick :D

That is exactly the sort of thing i wanna do sam, except no crappy boring bank job, i wanna be like a freelance photographer for a while, looks bo fun.  :)

Yeah that'd be cool.

Can you like just be hired by a company, say ermmmmm. MBUK, and get paid to go the something, say the bikeshow, and take loads of ace pictures. Then MBUK will buy them off you, or they'll be included in the overall price?

Stuff like that but for anything, not just biking? (Y)

I really like photography too you see :D And Media stuff. Especially Graphic Design though, but my mum says unless you make it really big, then you dont get much money.

Civil Engineering, design bridges and tunnels. Look at landscapes and stuff.

Or Architecture, but not boring stuff like flats... (Y)"

The Architects place I went to was mega boring. They did loads of houses. Some conversions so that you can have a lift in your company's building. Then some really expensive posh houses.

Seems v boring IMO. I need something that's interesting to me, design work, media, use of Mac's or computers preforably!

Or a physical job like the police maybe. Something that's new every day. You've got space to progress into higher pay and stuff.

I quite like advertisement and designs of posters / product design so maybe something in that might be good for me :)

I'd definately like to go into the computer feild but not so much the hardware puttin g them together type thing, more programming and web design/development. That's pretty much my dream as i've realised that being paid to ride (BMX or trials) isn't likely to happen (Y) . I also want to be freelance to give me more freedom.

Wanna do an MBA (a year long business degree add on thing) once I finish this course, set up a business of some description, get it worth alot, sell it while im still young and retire (in an ideal world..). Doubt that'll happen though, but eitherway I want to be setting up my own business somewhere along the line. Just need an idea now..

I'm thinking of engineering atm. In my 6th form interview I was told that the subjects I had chosen were near enough perfect for it. We then got talking about University and he was saying how if you go to one of the major cities you can actually get paid to do your course by companies, as much as £30k a year (Y) . Not bad for a student :)"

When I left 6th form I wanted to do something in engineering or mechanics, I ended up as an office administrator (Y)

I dont know what I want to be, I never really have, erm, this posts not very useful, er, I think the point i'm making (badly) is that you dont neccessarily have to know what you want to do.

I want to be happy.

On a side note, some of your aspirations... (Y) I know you're only young but I promise you, there's more to life than bicycles.

This thread has a positive vibe :) Go for it!

I'm doing an MSci chemistry degree. I don't want to be a scientist. Last year 43% of chemistry graduates went on to work for financial companies. My options are open. I want to get a first or a 2.1 from Bristol University. That will do nicely.

Fair enough, I was looking at the same as you, graphics design and other such, large format printing, etc. which is where I went to do work experience, but decided sitting inside all day working out why I couldn't justify my text to an article on Quark wasn't my thing...

But I still enjoy design so I started looking at more 'practical' applications and such, so I started looking at architecture, and I think that's what I want to do.

For me that is the main criteria. I would just like a job that is enjoyable, and I wont wake up everyday thinking " Oh no, I have work today"

I'd prefer to be happy in my job and poor than rich and hating my job.

I know what I want to do. I might not bother goin to uni next year aswell and just work and get money to do what I want to do.

I'm doing an MSci chemistry degree.

What's the difference between a MSci and a BSc?

Right now, I'm doing medicine at uni. Kinda shoehorns me into one profession, but I don't mind at all. It's great. I'm sure I'll be happy doing that :) (Although I need to fight that feeling that is saying give up uni and go and live in France being a snowboard bum (Y) )
