New Grinding Technique

Recommended Posts

i have discovered a new way to grind wheels (with a little help from bob  ):

http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....cmd=si&img=7250

you have to spin the wheel with your hand then touch the grinder on the wheel (experiment with angles, you have to push quite hard onto the rim surface if your wheel isnt true)

the wheel will start spinning at a stupid speed and the rim surface will slowly turn bright shinty silver as your doing it.

it creates a really deep and sharp grind that is uniform all the way round (Y) (no starting/stopping marks)

hope this helps some people, it makes my brake a beast.......

How would you hold the wheel though, 'cos there'd be shards of metal flying off it at a katrillion miles an hour? If you're careful when you grind in the 'usual' way, it'll be pretty consistent, and it'll wear down so it'll be uniform anyway?

Nice one Will, although i dont think its a "new technique" i think alot of people do it anyway (Y)

Anyway good to hear it works for you

P.s Mark, you could use a vice to hold the wheel maybe (Y)

Yer I used to do the same technique. Thought it would be a good way of doing it as the grind looked the same all the way round and it took less time. But I couldn't press onto the grinder as much, meaning the grind was less harsh. IMO you can't beat the old technique (stand on wheel and bloody mince the rim manually).

Wheel on small bucket works well too, same as above but with much less effort cos the rim bounces around.
