Switching To 24" Leeson

I'm planning on getting a new leeson 24". Built around the geo of my base 26 would this work?

I would be using 385mm chainstays,

0 drop BB,

With the same head angle as the base,

Same headtube length,

And to make the wheelbase equal too 1030

Would I need to alter anything here? I'm expecting I'd have to alter the chainstay length but i'm not too sure. I want it ro ride similar to the base, just a tad longer, with more rise in the BB. With 24" it would make it easier for street/park.

Thanks for anyhelp.

Why wouldn't 0 drop be any good? Is it because of the space beetween the cranks and floor?

If so would an inch really make that much differnence. 20" don't have much BB rise and their wheels are tiny, i've seen people using 175 cranks on them. Same goes for BMX people use 180 cranks.

Just wondering as I'd like to keep it to a 0 BB rise, if this isn't really possible then back to the drawing board.

Yeah I would go for a bb rise too. the standard 609 bb rise is +25mm. I take it you want a sorta all round trials bike that can ride parky, streety stuff too!

I'd have:

380mm chainstays

+20mm bb rise

74 degree head angle, a bit tighter than ashton make the steerer a bit quicker and it will feel nice on too wheels (maybe push it too 74.5, if you wanna go really

bmxy)

1025mm wheelbase (the tighter headangle will mean it will feel similar (reach wise) to 1030 with 73 head angle) plus a shorter wheelbase will be better on ramps!

and run it will a 80mm-100mm stem depending on how streety/trialsy you want it

I agree that a BB rise is needed. Maybe talk to Clive I know he was building opne with +15 for Kris to try.

I got mine with:

+20mm BB

380mm Stays

1020mm wheelbase with pashley forks

73 degree headangle

I'm running a 90mm stem and I love the way it rides, everyone else seems ot think its rasther short, but i'm not that tall and liek the way it flicks about due to length.

Can't go wrong with either of these.

Make the wheelbase longer by 10mm or so if you like, if your tall, like Sharn did.

Cheers for all that. I think i'll go for

385 chainstay

15mm bb rise if I can

74 degree headangle

1035 wheelbase

Some may think that 1035 is too long for parky stuff, but nick manning today in newport. WHAAAAA 1080 wheelbase getting air out of a vert wall, and he hand planted it. Amazing.

Do I need to tell clive the top tube length, seat tube length too? Or will he work those out himself?

You do realise that because of the smaller wheels a zero drop BB will be 1" lower than that of a 26" with zero drop BB? To have the same clearance and position as your Base you will need a +25mm BB and a high front end as well. You could get Clive to make the headtube a bit longer than standard (say 12cm) or just run some stem spacers like a lot of people do. Rest of geometry sounds pretty sweet. I should hopefully be getting one soon but a bit longer than standard.

yea but amazing is an understatement, he showed up just about every hardcore bmx'er there. the air he got out of the volcano and spine, jesus, and his fakie wallrides and normal wallrides, fooking insane higher than any bmer there and there were some good ones. but yea kyle go for a higher bb then zero if u can n u know you want too.

Just got off the phone to clive.

Geo is going to be

1030mm Wheelbase

380mm Chainstays

74.5 Degree head tube angle

120mm Headtube

+15mm BB rise

Lighter downtube.

Shiny black finish, with red decals.

Going to phone clive in 1 month, sort out final details, then he'll knock up the frame.

What does everyone think?

Sounds good mate (Y)

24" is taking over, as it should  :)"  :D

But.

If I want a 20" frame, say the T-Pro just for the sake of convenience, I phone SuperCycles up on the Monday before 12, frame's here next morning with headset, bash and BB.

If I want a 24" bike, it's either Leeson or Curtis. I phone up Clive. We talk about geometry. 1 month later I might have a frame.

It's not going to happen until they become more mainstream (at affordable prices, too), as opposed to custom orders. The Ed Tongue rode super nice from what everyone said, so I guess if Ashton could make one of those that could take a beating we'd have a winner, but until then it's just not feasible for most riders.

Good things come to those who wait (Y). There is no such thing as instant gratification, even though everyone expects it. You could wait 2 days and get a piece of crap, or wait 2 months and get something quality :)". I know what I'm getting :D

I can understand what people mean about having to wait for a month for a frame, as most people including me would want it well, right now. I really don't mind waiting for the frame, its steel (less chance of me breaking it), its going to ride the way I want it too and its going to look the way I want it too.

I think at the moment 24" is only for patient people. I'm sure my base will hold up another month (Y)
