Crank Options...

Hey,

I'm after some new cranks for my Norco but I can't seem to decide on which to go for. Now I know that the first choice will always be middleburns due to the weight, strength after sales care etc

But to be honest I'd like summit a bit different so I'm just wondering what options there are?

Basically the criteria is as follows...

Square Taper

175mm (ish)

Burly looking (I'm thinking 3-piece or race face style - middleburn looks a bit feeble in my opinion)

Lightweight

Strong

Sexy

Also, if anybody has a pair of nice cranks for sale then feel free to post :o

Cheers guys, Sam

I'd look into some raceface turbines. Mine have lasted coming on for three years now no problems. Theres a huge choice of BB's, mine are still under a five year warranty and they're stiff as hell.

Only niggle is they are ISIS, but if you really want square taper then I think (not 100%) that they do a square version too.

Hope that helps, Tom

When I read post one, I instantly though Bonz cranks, what do I see below......

If not does anyone remember the really old school fsa afterburners? Steven Maeder of Biketrials.com had some one his yellow b26.

Ah how old school. Check out the extreme weight saving holes in his rim (Y)

I've always been rather fond of these cranksets , manufactured by RooX . OK , the set shown is 5 arm , but I couldn't find the set I was looking for . I recall Petr Kraus (massively underrated rider) used to run RooX cranks on his Orange Zero . Look into Roox , pretty nicely made componentry . Just an idea .

MBUK gave them a hideously bad review (1/5 I think) when they came out. They said powerpros were as good, for about a fifth of the price. Not sure if that actually means anything though :o

There's no point getting different cranks purely to be different. People use 'burns 'cos they're the best cranks around.

Even though you are after something a bit different, as a post on advice for cranks it would have to be Middleburns everytime in my opinion purely due to performance.

They may not look as ´burly´as some of the other cranks on the market, but i think they still blow pretty much everything else away, iv used them for years and can´t fault them never had any serious problems with them, Iv recently switched to ISIS and its just an improvement for me of what already was excellent cranks.

If you wanted something different to Middleburns id say Tensiles are the next best cranks but they are ISIS only.

Cheers, Dan

I thought Bonz too, as soon as I saw the thread title (well, as soon as I'd finished getting frustrated becuase I couldn't remember the name)

Burns are harder to get at a decent price overseas, and the Canadians seem to be getting on OK with the Bonz cranks. If you're looking for an alternative, they'll definitely stand out too. They get my vote.
