Mark W
'lo all, Just wondering - has anyone tried the Control or Team boosters? I've actually bent my RB booster back so far that it's almost pushing the cross-over down (2 years of me sitting on it slightly when I sit down'll do that to a booster :">), and so I was going to get a new booster at Bike'05. However, which is best? I'm running 4-bolt so I'm tempted just to be done with it and get the Control booster, but what sort of length bolts would I need? It's 12mm thick which is considerably more than my RB (I think? The RB could only be about 5-7mm thick at most?), so would I need long bolts or is the booster recessed near the bolt holes? Do you get bolts with it? And lastly, is it actually any good? :ermm: Thanks for any help, Mark.
Lawnmowerman
My mates got one on his control and its fookin beasty!!! I think the bolts are recessed quite a bit so the standard bolts fit :ermm:
Mark W
Cheers Jay, I'm guessing it's a Control booster then?
Lawnmowerman
Yup, it came with the frame :o You've got me thinking now :ermm:"
Phatmike
Whilst helping steve out with his developments of boosters, i took a few measurements of the control booster: http://www21.brinkster.com/takeoffdesigns/booster.html As you can see, the bolt holes are heavily recessed, so the bolts you're using on your RB will fit fine. :) Booster-wise, it does exactly what it's meant to - damn well! It's the stiffest booster that i've ever used (even got a shimano XTR sitting in my spares box :"> ), so i really can't fault it. Looks damn good too. :o I can't really see any advantages over the "team" booster compared to the "control" booster, apart from the fact it's marginally lighter, it's just as (if not quite) wide, but just less stiff. :) Mike. EDIT: Link works now. Edit 2: I've just realised that i've not put the depth of the bolt holes on! :ermm: But i presume they're at least half way in, so your normal bolts will work fine. Lawnmowerman
I think you'll have to buy the team booster because it's designed to be used with mod tyres. If you look at the Tartybikes website they come with all the spacers and bolts :ermm: Edited March 26, 2005 by trialsboy560
Mark W
Cheers Mike :ermm: That's cool about the Control; I hate fagging about cutting down bolts 'n' stuff, so I might just go for the Control not the team. Plus it won't look gay 'cos it covers all the mounts not just the top 2 bolts :o I was thinking it'd probably be fine seeing as it's a 12mm thick I-beam; you'd have to pretty much TRY to make that shit... You know the way it 'protects the cross-over' - is that a recessed bit again for the cross-over to slot into, or is it just that it's a well burly booster and covers it in general? No, that's just to save a little weight in that area, depending on the length of your cross over (ie, if it's not miles long!), it'll cover and protect it perfectly. :ermm: Anything else i can help booster wise - give me a shout. :) Mike. Josh_Trials
I got a control booster on my python an it works really well, the brake is real solid an stuff like that but when you come to get new tyres it is not good because it rubs like a bitch and u might have to file the back of the booster down so it does not rub. An if u get them from phil select bikes i think u get bolts wid it. :ermm: josh
Mark W
That doesn't sound so good :ermm: Does the Team have more clearance? I'll be running Creepy Crawlers either way and they come pretty much bald, so hopefully the Control will be OK...
haydon_peter
I have now been running the Echo Team 2 bolt booster for a few weeks and am stupidly impressed with it! My brake feels very solid and the booster does a good job at protecting the crossovers. I went through 3 crossovers in 6 months on the megamo just through clipping them with my heal, with this booster its pretty much impossible to do that now! I have also noticed some scratches on the sides of the booster where it has protected the crossover when binning the bike. Look here, it appears that the team booster has 10mm more clearance in height, also it appears that the team booster has 2mm more clearance width ways if the hole spacings are anything to go by. I will check how much tyre clearance I have tomorrow for you Mark, but I have a feeling it would be a safer bet to get the team booster :ermm: I cant see the 4 bolt Control booster making the brake much more solid, the 2 bolt booster does exactly what is needed, it stops the frames tubes twisting/flexing closer to the seat tube. There is a tiny amount of flex [Read under 1mm of flex] at the bottom bolts but it isnt noticable through the lever. You wont be disapointed with the Team booster Mark :) Catch me on MSN tomorrow night and badger me about the tyre clearance :o Tic
Mark W
Any pics of it on the bike, Tic? Thanks for the info :ermm:
haydon_peter
Any pics of it on the bike, Tic? Thanks for the info :o ← The only way I could get pics for you is if I was to bring my bike up to my room and use the web cam :S Looked at the clearance today, I would say get the Team booster, I have about 20mmish clearance with my wheel right back in the drop outs...
