New Exhaust / Backbox

Heylo!

I got a new exhaust / backbox for my car the other day..

I've completely forgot the make or model of it (which is well annoying me!). I'm in college at the moment so I can't check >_<(

It does sound nice and deep when I'm driving, but when my car's just running but not moving it doesn't sound too much different than before.. My mate who fitted it said it will take about a week before it sounds it's best because Carbon or something has to build up inside.. Is that true?

Here's some pic's (Links because they seem to be rather large!)

(Notice the Store22 sticker.. There's 2 on the front too, under each side of the sunstrip.. Gangsta! :ermm:)

Haha, and a mk4 >_<"  Theres actually some nice 5 door fiestas out there, definitely get some new rims and a set of zetec-s sideskirts for it though.

No don't, leave it as it is. It's a Ford Fiesta, and should stay a Ford Fiesta.

Your mate really doesnt have a clue.

Carbon is what you want to get rid of, if your car is filling the back box up with carbon, then you have a serious problem.

It will sound louder if there was nothing in it, but then seeing as its coming from a weedy little engine, it would just sound noisy, not powerfull.

Dont take this the wrong way, but if you want your car to go faster, your stating at the wrong end, backboxes like that ae just a waste of time and money.

I have a 'Sebring' 3 1/2" on my escort I think looks tidy but big......

Its nice to hear the exhaust when you got the windows down in summer doing some b road thrashing etc.

Looks tidy Mart >_<

Next step deffers some multispoke/zetec stylee alloys though :ermm:

WOW, alot of you seem to be suckered into thinking a back box is a good thing to upgrade to make your car go faster, and sound better.

Alot of back boxes just make noise, they dont even sound nice.

You will get a far better sound, and much better performance from a proper exhaust.

My car Has a 4-2-1, 2 inch Tubular Exhaust manifold, 2 inch stright through Exhaust system, and a 3 inch chrome tail pipe.

Sounds the nuts, and gives a good power boost to boot.

The bigger carb, and K&N Pannel filter also help with a good induction roar.

It seems you lot on here have new cars, so a good, cheap mod to give more power, and a better exhaust roar would be to replace your catalytic converter with a normal peice of pipe.

Obviously keep your cat for MOTs

That's all well and good, but it's not always best to have a straight through system if you want performance from the exhaust. A proper, good company won't necessarily make it straight through for performance, there are much better ways. Don't ask me all the ins and outs of it, because that's about all i know lol.

Exactly, but not every one can be bothered to think about getting the spanners to swap their exhaust sytems over every year can they!!

Ch!P - straight through would still work provided the bore/diameter of the tubing was correct for the amount of back pressure required for the engine to run properly. I'm not into that kinda knowleadge but its just a case of getting the right size. not bodging on any old system kinda thing.

The way to get more horsies out of your car is engine conversions, I doubt anyone does it (back box) for power increases....

My 1.6 16V sounds ok anyway, can hear the engine going nicely as well as the exhaust, which as it happes is cat back not just a back box.

I bought my car already modded as it saved me the effort of doing it.

I have no dreams of increaing the power of mine, only dreams of buying cars with more bhp to start with.

If I really wanted to make MY car faster I would scrap the 17" alloys its got and buy some 13" steel pizza cutters for some improved acceleration.... shame it would then squeal on every bend.....
