andyroo
Prey - Michael Crichton Very very good book. About a guy who looks after the kids while his wife works at a nanotechnology company. She spends more and more time away from the house, and strange stuff starts happening... Very good! >_<

delusional
Shopped by Joanna Blythman. Picked this via a recommendation on the Howies site and I can only mirror what they said "Read this and never shopped in a supermarket again". Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell. Best book that has ever graced the English language by one of the best authors to ever live. Everyone should read that book. Pretty much anything by Philip K Dick, although probably the best ones to read are A Scanner Darkly (soon to be a cool looking animated movie) or Time out of joint. PKD stands alongside Orwell as my favourite author. He was a master of paranoid, disturbed literature with more expertly crafted layers of conspiracy than... well pretty much anything else. I've also been quite into Robert Heinlein recently, although he can be a little hit and miss. His stand out achievement is probably Starship Troopers, which is an excellent novel from so many different angles (just try to ignore the piece of crap movie with the same name). Also good by Heinlein is Citizen of the Galaxy which is quite an enjoyable read, nothing extra special there though.
trials_rocks
Marching Powder by Rusty Young. A non-fiction book by an aussie backpacker, telling the true story of an english man who ended up in the notorius San Pedro jail in Bolivia. I thought this was a brilliant book and I found it impossible to believe some of the goings on in this jail. Drugs, corruptness, violence and more. Marching Powder ***** >_< Edited March 23, 2005 by trials_rocks
Alexx
Bill Bryson - Short History of Nearly Everything if you feel like learning something read it... its amazing. ← Bill Bryson - Notes from a big country Funny as, one of the best 'random' reads. Just a whole rather satirical look at american culture :ermm: >_<
Spikenipple
Charles Higson - Full Whack Charles Higson - King Of The Ants Charles Higson - Happy Now Charles Higson - Getting Rid of Mister Kitchen These are all brilliant books by Charles Higson, he really is a brilliant writer and is very able to set a scene >_<

UrbanPoet
The aforementioned classic, 1984, and His Dark Materials trilogy by Pullman. It's meant to be an adult/kids series and it is amazing. The use of language, description and character depth is second-to-none  Also, if you can, read Hemmingway's Essential short stories. What that guy crams into two pages is amazing, an ace read (Y) .
