U Think The Slr Was Fast?

Although I'm a biker boy, if I were to get a car, it would not be less than 1.4. Any less than that and they are so draggy and slow...

I speak through experience:

G/f: 1.1 Pug 106

Mate 1: Ren. 5 1.1

Mate 2: Rover 100 1.2

All those are bad at pull aways...

One of my other friends had a 1.4 corsa (The nice old ones... not the Corsa C)

And that was fast... he traded it for a 1.3 turbo starlet GT.. >_< immense car!

Know this guy has some brains >_<

At atleast you know it will go round corners and not just straights :ermm:

Ahhh, but it wont... The car can't go round corners too well because it just spins. A friend of mine over took it on pretty much every corner of castle coombe in a road legal 1380 mini (thrown together the night before (N) ) and has video to prove it..... It did kind of blow him away on the straights though

13 x 8's + nutter driver. Yeah, coombe is a beast of a track, not driven it myself yet (Y) . Hoping to go on a few track days early summer, I dont know weather to take my car round seeing as it handles like a bag o'shite and i dont think the rover beast would be able to stay together for 6 laps of full on abuse.... Would be fun though.

As most of us probably know the Mclaren F1 hold the record for the highest speed in a road car.

Well not any more...

9FF

They say it's a GT2, but its actually a heavily modified twin turbo GT2 engine placed in the lighter chassis of the GT3.

to me that isn't really beating it,

fair enough it beat it by 1mph but the F1 wasn't heavily modified, it was quick straight out of the box.

You obviously missed my link then....the Koenigsegg beats the McLaren F1 by far.

Got me there, last I heard they weren't gonna test the CCR's top speed till April...

Though in one of the links Koenigsegg are described as being a "large scale manufacturer" (which in my mind is incorrect, but that's besides the point), which kinda makes the 9ff thing an even better achievement seeing as they only have about 6-8 engineers compared to a company like Koernigsegg which will have about 20+ working on the car. I am also a little dubious of all this top speed malarky as I would love to see an instance where doing 200+mph is really necessary in a road car. I reallise that speed (and power for that matter) is a selling point of a car, and looking back through this and other car threads is a good way of distinguishing (bragging about) various cars. Though you could argue that with cars such as the new BMW M5 and the up coming M6 which will both do 200mph once the electronic limiter has been removed, supercars need to push the envelope in order to stay "super".

But all this speed does seem to come at a price (and not just the dollar aspect). When EVO magasine tested the CC8s, they noted how crap the cars handling was below 100mph, which makes a car like that in this country seem pointless as there are very few "fun" roads (motorways don't count) where you could take advantage of the car better handling at high speeds.

All this goes to prove that top speed, although good for quoting in the brochure, is not what people should be looking at when bragging about cars. As metioned above, it's about handling, thats where the fun is at. And that was why I was pleased back in the summer when Ferrari gave a press conference on the F430 saying they were to concentrate on the use of F1 technology to improve the power to weight of their cars and that we will see more models like the F360CS rather high speed cars like the Enzo.

My argument as such wasn't regarding the whole car, but as the subject had moved onto the world speed record of a production car, i only contributed what i have seen to be that current record holder, so no hard feelings

What REALLY makes me laugh, is you can go out and spend £700,000 on one of these cars and be like 'shit bitch I can go fast'

But then your like 'f**k, for £13,000 I could have brought a Suzuki GSX-R1300 Hayasbusa, with an engine around 4/5 times smaller than mine, and it will kick the ass out of 99% of these cars'

And I even think a lot of motorbikes look nicer than half the cars on this page, especially when you can trick the fcuk out of it, and have leathers/helmet to match (Y)

Only downside of course, Is the practicality of a motorbike, useless in the winter, cold in the spring, 2 people MAX, and you can carry fcuk all :P

Another downside of motorbikes being that getting hit by a car probably hurts quite alot more than if you got hit by one and were in another car. Also getting all sweaty underneath those clammy leathers. Also motorbikes being a whole lot less comfortable than cars. Also you cant listen to music (well you can but not as easily) on a motorbike. I would rather buy a fast car
