Tomm
Yeah but how about without firewire? can it be done? ← Depends on the camera. Probably not. Does it have a USB port on it? Even if it does, the quality won't be as good. Plus with Firewire you can control the camera via the PC, which is useful for editting. Just get a firewire card :o

Sameer
You can control the camera with a USB cable, too. As long as your camera has a USB slot, which it will because it's like the bog-standard thing to have, then you can transfer videos/images no problemo. Obviously the quality won't be as lubbly jubbly as you'd expect from a FireWire, but it's still watchable. You should have got some software with your camera, but if you didn't there should be plenty to 'acquire' off the net. I use Image Mixer v8, which... does the job. But if you're required to spend money, spend that bit more on the FireWire shabang.

Shaun
You can't EDIT dv footage via USB. You might get away with getting some sub-standard VCD quality footage off the tape, but you might sacrifice audio. You need a Firewire connection to edit DV footage in all quality levels (i.e. basic VCD up to true DV quality)
