Wide Bars On Short Bike

Its time for me to go and buy a new bar and stem, but I don't want to get the monty stem and riser bars (mainly because of the sloping headcap, as I want to use my Xlite stem plug).

Would the zoo riser bar and stem be good? Ive heard that really wide bars like this would feel weird on such a short bike (i will be running them on a monty 221), but is this true?

Would it suit the monty well enough, and whats weight like?

The monty stems not worth getting to be fair its too much hassle for what its worth.

Basically the best option for you is what I have done, Zoo Stem £37 nearest to monty stem and then the monty bars £50.

This way your going to have roughly the designed setup for the bike for around the same price. The monty bars dont quite feel as wide/flat as the zoo so would feel better on a short bike like the X-lite.

Best options to have a feel see what suits you best, Chris Walker uses Koxx bar and stem on his 221ti and he prefers the feel of them, in the end its your call.

Olly.

I run 28" (I think) wide Pazzaz carbon risers on my T-Pro, and the wheelbase on that doesn't quite reach the 1000mm mark. It's mainly down to shoulder width, etc., just to get a nice feel, pretty much. I wouldn't want to go below 27"-ish either way, unless you want to be Mr. Barspinner or something.

Zoo risers are not actually that wide. I found them slightly narrower that brisa's and a good bit narrower that my try alls (in feel anyway).

I say they should feel pretty good on your bike. All it will do is give you more control I would imagine.

I run Brisa bars on a t-pro and find the width of them pretty good (t-pro wb of 1000mm) so i'm guessing it will be similar geo to a monty..

Once you have gone wide, you'll never go back.

I have the onza carbon flat bars, 29", i have a t-lite which isn't much different from a monty. The control you get from wider bars is unbeliveable, narrow bars feel kack when you go back to them.

I have the monty stem, the top cap deal is a pain in the ass, but it looks good.

Have you considerd the onza raiser crabons? Nice and stiff, and they look nice.

Nah, they seem a bit expensive for my budget at £53 or however much they are.

I have onza carbon flats atm, which are very very stiff, but mine seem a bit overweight at 380g or so (100g more than they claim), and i prefer the feel of risers I think.

Are the onza carbon risers the actual claimed weight?

And are they worth £53 when the zoo bars are £37/38?

I disagree, you can have bars too wide.

As someone else said it depends lots on your shoulder width. I went from my thin onza bars to 28.5" Echo bars a while back, and thuoghgt it was great, but after a while I decided to see what it would be like to have thinner bars again, so I cut themn down to 27" ish and they felt much better, I was in a more comfortable riding possition on the bike and could ride a bit better.

Back on topic, in my opinion its not worth paying extra for monty, just got for the full zoo! bar and stem, or Echo bar and stem, both seem nice.
