nb88
Riiiiight....im getting a new ronnie rim off tarty soon and i need some new pads (koxx bloxx wont be able to reach the rim) so im thinking of getting some zoo pads and not grinding my rim. It's either that or get new heatsinks with a grind, or something else... Its coming up to summer so im going towards using a bit of tar on a clean rim...but im not too sure......what do you lot think? Cheers, Noz. Oh, and im after proper beasty hold and bite, no modulation. Edited March 13, 2005 by Nozmeister
JT!
Oh, and im after proper beasty hold and bite, no modulation. ← Sounds like the characteristics of tar to me. Tar works fine in the summer, its in the winter its crap. So i'd go with the tar and the zoo pads, or rimjams. Edit: Wont the heatskins batch B with the 10mm of compound be any good, they should reach the rim ok. Edited March 13, 2005 by JT! Michael Hardman
You poo face  I have a roonie in my echo and my plaz pads reach fine, just had to adjust the brake a bit. My plazs seem ok but i think my koxx bloxx will be better suited to the rim so will put those on soon.
*OnzaMike*
Get the new heatsink batch b's (white ones) they seem to be working excellent for me, my grind is basically totally warn aswell. If you add tar, they become alot sharper and definatly give a real strong decent hold! Try some noori. nb88
Im using a monty 2003 frame and my koxx bloxx (about 3-4mm on each pad) just about reach my monty rim that i had, so i doubt theyll reach a ronnie rim. I'll try though... I'd guess that any new pad would fit really, just that my bloxx are a bit worn. I don't wanna use any TPA at all either. I'm thinking of heatsink batch Bs now....or Zoo...but then they wont work in the wet.. Hmm...I've got some spare rim jam blues aswell i could try. Whiteboy
could you not use the pad bodge?
JT!
could you not use the pad bodge? ← Thats a bit dodgy though isn't it? Did heatsink do a brake block that was 8-10mm or something, sound perfect in your case? 10mm of pad material for up to 66% extra life over previous “Batch A” pads (Y) Edited March 14, 2005 by JT! Mark W
Yeah, but people had to cut 2mm off so they'd fit in most bikes, so they come at 7-8mm as standard now.
ScotchDave
I'm usre if you ask steve nicely he'll give you extra pad, and why don't you wanna use any TPA?

ScotchDave
Hmmm, is your brake bled properly?
nb88
Yep perfect bleed (Y)
ScotchDave
Is the lever bolt really tight, on my old set of maggies I found that if i used the TPA too much it would slow the return but if I slackebed off the lever bolt a bit it'd stop bring sluggish. nb88
Not sure, ill give that a go though! Cheers. I've asked tarty to grind the rim hes giving me so ill try my koxx bloxx on, with some TPA. Thanks all, i may go for zoo! pads next, on a clean rim when my grind wears down (Y) . Or i have my rim jams, and a set of yellow heatsinks i think (if i can find them)
JonPace
Yep perfect bleed (Y) ← I don't believe you. If it was bled properly the pads would return at the correct rate throughout the whole tpa. Try bleeding it a few more times and see if it makes a difference. Bionic Balls
it sounds like you've got plenty of pads to try! Wear some out and then decide which ones to get next... Ah well..had some spare cash? adam
JT!
Had problems with it before like pads not returning properly etc. so i hate using it ← Yeah me too. I just physicly ajust the brakes closer to the rim. (Y)
Mark W
It's the opposite for me; I love having my lever come back well close to the bar. To do this and not have a loosey goosey lever, it means the TPA's gotta be wound in pretty damn far, which means when I set up the pads there's got to be about 3 days travelling distance between the pad and the rim, otherwise the lever action's a bit waffer. This is all bearing in mind I've got a super duper long TPA bolt in so there's more adjustment that your average puny Magura lever. The new translucent 'sink pads seem to work super well. Sikamon came down with his, and after a quick scrub down a hill they were, to put it mildly, bitchin'. I've recently had to go back to the Yellow 'sinks, 'cos my green ones ran out after a short while, and the yellows don't feel too bad really. I've got a pretty dead grind on my back rim though, so I had to use a smidge of tar just to get some nice performance straight off the bat, but the tar's not visible any more (so I'm guessing it's gone fully), and it's locking up really nicely still. Might have to get some X-Hydras 'cos I want to know if they were as amazing as I remember them being. First set lasted me a year and a half. Them were the days... Brisa
Slow returning is usually down to crap round the pistons themselves. I just took the pads out, scrubbed round it with water and an old toothbrush. I then just pulled the lever to get the pistons to come out as far as i could then rubbed some magura fluid round the piston. Worked as new ever since..
