But presumably if i just plug my camera into the usb port and download some kind of software it should work?

Depends on the camera.

Some cams to, some don't.

EDIT...?? are u talking about a dv cam...or a camERA

If its a dv cam....hock it up...then go on msn do the webcam settings...(make sure u cam is on, in the mode to film) and choose that camera as your webcam.

Ive found when doing this, sometimes the camera turn off every couple of mins, but can be stopped but putting the camera into demo mode...dont ask me how those..i just bought a webcam

I'm not 100% what the difference between a dv cam and camera is if im honest!!

Its a digital stills camera but has the capability of recording short clips.

Cheers for help...

Doesnt that just seem to be the best idea?

Aye, of course thats the simplest option but for me personally it isn't an option - money is not my friend (Y)

DV camera - digital video camera, records on miniDV, DV or DVCAM tapes.

You have a digital camera. Takes digital pictures, stores on a flash card of some sort. (MMC, SD, CF, MS).

I'm not sure you're able to run yours as a webcam, I'd have a look in the manual.

By the way, have you changed your signature Janson? I'm sure it said something like 'the only way not to get caught is by not doing it' or something similar... ? meh, just caught my eye :D
