JTM
mine ← Surely that placement cant be good for your sub  Or is there no choice?!
deagledaddy
@ JTM, last time I looked bass sound was non-directional so it doesn't really make any difference where i place it in my room. I have lots of space in the rest of my room but its neater where it is. And I have't noticed the sub causing any picture problems with the tv where it is either if thats what you were refering too?? Dai the Socket
to deagledaddy.. I noticed you have an Amp connected to the speakers so i'm aiming this at you. I've got my ipod. I want to play it into 2 separate powered sets of speakers. I'm guessing I need an Amp for the iPod to go into, Then 2 lines out to the sets of speakers? Correct? How much would a simple amp that does that 'ok' for me cost? Is it even possible? Anyone? thanks...Nick
Danny
I want to play it into 2 separate powered sets of speakers. ← By that do you mean just some bare speakers no amp? If their powered surely you can just split the ipod output between the 2 with an adaptor?
Dai the Socket
By that do you mean just some bare speakers no amp? If their powered surely you can just split the ipod output between the 2 with an adaptor? ← Yeah. I could do that. I'm planning on buying the speakers very soon. I've got a splitter but it's only mono which is a bit annoying. I want to be able to vary volumes between both of them though, which is why i want an amp. Also I've got my 120watt guitar amp in my room, which means if i had an amp I could link an adapter to fit 5mm ( i think ) and put it into the speakers. Just an Idea. deagledaddy
i'm thinking the output on an ipod would be in stereo, in the form of a 3.5m jack for head phones.... So all you need to do is get a cable - 3.5 jack to pair of phono. Buy an amp.... can get for £100 or whatever, or cheaper not really looked into it closely. Make sure its got adjustment for fade left to right as you want etc (though really you should leave it in the middle!!) Then wire your speakers to this and job done.. Not much to it really..... Though a massive amp would look daft with a lil IPOD sat on-top of it  My set up is just a Denon F101 hifi (midi-separates styleee) with my PC and DVD plugged into it as well as the CD and Radio which are part of it....... PS2 mini is plugged straight into TV for convenience......
Dai the Socket
do most amps come with like numerous outputs? Or will i still have to split it with a splitter thing? I want an amp with atleast 2 output sockets.
deagledaddy
An Amp normally is 2 channel when your talking home stereos. As this is what 'STEREO' is.... LEFT and RIGHT. I think you would be hard pushed to find a mono one  More channels are normally for home A.V. systems (Surround sound/DVD playback etc. etc.) More importnat imo is the number of inputs.... i.e. how many things you can put into it without unplugging things. So you could have, IPOD, PC, DVD etc. all running through it, of course not all making sounds out of the speakers at the same time!! p.s. annoying auto correct on A.V = have :@
Tomm
And there's no point splitting it anyway, you don't need your STEREO sound to be split and coming out of two sets of speakers, it's stupid
JTM
@ JTM, last time I looked bass sound was non-directional so it doesn't really make any difference where i place it in my room. ← I more meant with it being against the wall (if it actually is???) and against a side wall??
The enchanted broomstick
Avoid a PA amp if you want to run this setup unless you get PA speakers cos trust me from words of experience stereo speakers will not handle a PA amp. You really want to get an amp from an old seperates system, usually they will have a channel A and B you wanna use the cable deagledaddy said about to connect to the input on the amp and use the speaker outputs to go to the speakers. If you dont have a channel A and B you can always use one pair of speakers on the left channel and one pair on the right channel and use the balance controller as a fader effect, this isnt the most professional way of doing things but it works. Also try and find an amp that has bass and treble controls or find a graphic equalizer simply because the sound coming out of the ipod will be pretty crappy especially if its a "line out" If you need to know anything more about your setup add me to msn on i have an tried all methods of stereo setups and now have an entire PA system so i have a good idea on what im talking about) Edited June 15, 2009 by The enchanted broomstick
