boon racoon
I have a KMC thin chain (off supercycles..it's to be run with gears) How do I go about joining it? I have got these connecter links..so I shorten it then put these on to join it? Or can i do away with these and join it at a male/female end with black pins that are already in there? Wanna know which is the more common / stronger way of doing it cos I don't wanna end up with a dodgy chain. Cheers Boon(e)

Brisa
Yea, don't bother with the connector. Just join it like you would a normal chain...
Will Arnold
the kmc connector is a stong beast! when my kmc kool chain snapped it did so at the middle of the chain, so that isnt a problem :D i wouldnt join it with a chain tool because you wont get it as strong as all the other links that a machine has joined. and the weakest link is the one thats gunna snap :D cheers. Will P.S. which version of the chain is it? thin? fat?

rich4130
The connector link catches in the mech as well, no need unless you take it off lots.
ScotchDave
I joined my KMC with a chain tool, and since then I have had to replace my tensiles for a few reasons including the fact I had twisted all the chainring bolts backwards, but the kmc is fine. So chain tool it is.
Matt_Tupman
Chain tool :D the connectors are weak :D
JT!
I don't use the conector, i just use a tool, with the pins. (N)
Dr. Nick Riviera
is the kmc like a sigma conenctor? if so avoid like bubonic plague and 1100+ wheelbases
robonatomz
if you got a good chain tool use that but the conector's aint that week. i use them if im in a rush or somthing. but would prefer the proper joining way. just be carefull not to split the outer link when re joining the chain, i found that kmc's somthimes do that. CalopS
dont use the link, mine snapped and i banged my knee on the stem and couldnt walk very well for 3 days :D
Will Arnold
hmm mixed views :D i was talking about the fat version when i said mine snapped in the middle of the chain. im guessing the thin quicklink is not very stong then. go with a decent chain tool :D Will
AdamR28
The quick link isnt as strong as the main links. I'd go without it, use a normal chain tool Matt :D
011001000110010101110010
Chain tool again :D Been running mine for about a year no problems.

Felix
I snapped many chains, but never at the connector.
