Tom Booth
Right i've got a pair of truvativ cranks with one threaded chainring hole, Can this be threaded? is there a matter of its the wrong materiel(sp?)?. if youve had this done to your truvativs please reply whether it was a success or not please? Cheers Tom p.s How much does it cost to have a bolt hole helicoiled by the way? Cheers Edited March 4, 2005 by boovey
Dr. Nick Riviera
hmm maybe but try getting a longer bolt and putting a nut on the end as a temporary measure or get it tapped out and run a bigger bolt ? i think helicoiling it on the tabs would reduce the strenght a little bit though  iirc matt urban does helicoiling:)
nbr-chris
If you had it drilled and re threaded you wouldn't be able to put a chainring bolt in you'd need a bigger bolt. I'm sure a heli coil would work and they are usually stronger than the original threads. Its about 20 quid for a kit so a chainring bolt thread shouldn't be much at all. I'm assuming its for a granny ring mount yeah? If it is it will be fine heli coiled
totaltrials
No, you couldn't do this, mainly because chainring bolts are a specialist cycle thread, as Ive tried to get one in my factory and we cannot get hold of them apart from a special order which we couldn't even find, so this would make it very unlikely you would get a helicoil in this speicalist thread. You could drill the hole a little bigger and tap it bigger with a standard metric thread then use a normal bolt to go in the helicoil, but you would have to find a bolt which wouldnt stick out a great deal, this is possible.
