Danny
Its just a shame all the patents on the HS33 prevent them from making a rim brake. But saying that RB still made a lever hummmmmmmm

dave85
what about the starbike hydraulic rim brake? ← Hydraulic actuation of a v, rather than directly pushing the brake pads, I think magura do (or did) hold the master patent on their method. Tartridge
This looks like the 'Firmtech' patent... still looking for other... http://v3.espacenet.com/textdoc?DB=EPODOC&...&QPN=DE19929678 Something very similar to hydraulic Vs here - but definitely different enough to get around a patent on their idea: http://v3.espacenet.com/origdoc?DB=EPODOC&...0&QPN=GB2341903 Starbike? http://v3.espacenet.com/textdoc?DB=EPODOC&IDX=WO9858836&F=0 HS33 elbow patent! Brisa
How long have maguras been out though? As patents only last for so long in order for a company to let thier product live a full life cycle of a product before its copied. I think its around 15-20 years... Tartridge
All it is, is two pistons with pads (basically). ← Exactly - and that is whats patented. Theres not many other ways of doing it.

Nick Garland
Exactly - and that is whats patented. JTM
4 pistons 2 either side, 2 mounts on the pads so the pistons push the pad out together like a 4pot disc? ← Thats what I was thinking, but if it were that easy, im sure they would have done it by now
Davetrials
Those maguras on the patient picture are set up naff (Y) If hope made a rim brake but didnt actually SELL! it for money, then that is allowed Maybe just raise the price of say a pawl to £120 and get free set of hydralic rim brakes, if u understand me :) thats allowed, would be kinda f**ked if you wanted just one pawl though. :)
JonPace
Thats what I was thinking, but if it were that easy, im sure they would have done it by now ← maybe they just haven't got round to doing it yet, and maybe they don't feel it necessary to make such a thing. Maguras are good enough in the end but a hope brake would be likely to be superior as all their other stuff is well thought out and designed to perfection. Davetrials
Except the hope trial pad movment, which isnt a problem but still not perfection.
