thesubway
yeah i've been looking, im liking the 306 1.9d becouse the insurance is only 55 a month, but thats the only car i can see that would be ok for me we have a corsa now for trials but to be honest the 1.2 engine cant handle it. If its dodgy its dodgy You cou;d get a g reg fiesta thats done 1000 miles by a vicar, or a 54 plate fiesta thats done 10,000 by a 17 year old boy racer, It doesnt matter

Thanks Richie ← for what ur looking at id go with a 306 EVERY time. tehy are DIRT cheap to insure. a mate of mine wrote off 3 cars in a crash aged 17, costing his insurance company 9k, he then got a 1.8si escort which he insured for 800quid for the rest of that year, when it came to renew and the crash was listed it went up to 2200, so he sold that and got a P-reg (97) 306 1.9D turbo for 1300quid!!!! and its a VERY smart car its a reasonably high model, eith electric windows, sunroof, very nice seats and interior, pug alloys, all in shiney black. despite his crash hes only paying 1300 a year on insurance, which is awesome! hes now just turned 18, driving for exactly a year. sure, its not as quick as ur average 1.8 petrol, but hes done something to the engine (ive been told u can adjust something underneath that increases the boost from 11psi to 19psi) which made a great difference. once it gets going its very nippy, and will happily sit at 100mph all day long, and being deisel its got the torque to pull a house, let alone a lil trials bike! id go with a 306 everytime, m reg onwards can be picked up for sub 1500quid in great condition with average milage (80-100k) and remember being deisel milage really doesnt matter too much ps... tehy handle really well too! haydon_peter
You say you are worried about an older car going wrong but with your budget you will be looking at newer cars that have done higher mileages than most of the older cars you will be able to find... And you should stick to your budget, I know £1300 is only £100 over budget but decide a budget and stick to it.

And you should stick to your budget, I know £1300 is only £100 over budget but decide a budget and stick to it. ← thing is tic, if hes going to go for a deisel the mileage really doesnt matter at all. my dad had an audi 80 estate 1.9tdi that had done over 230k and still ran perfectly, didnt use any oil, and had simply had regular servicing. with deisels 100k is just run in :turned: anything sub 150k is fine generally speaking! especially sinse many desiels are used as motorway cars. i know id rather have a 100k motorway car than a 50k city car any day.... and why stick to a budget? surely that way your more likely to be forced into getting something substandard when for another £100 you could get something really good. sometimes its worth paying that bit extra to get the best.... JTM
Thing is nick, most motor way miles cars, ie. company cars will be vectras, audis etc etc, slightly out of his price range maybe A P reg vectra would be good though. And remember, the larger the engine (normally) the less its been ragged. And its almost impossible to burn a diesel out

hititfaster
(ive been told u can adjust something underneath that increases the boost from 11psi to 19psi) It's probably the turbo that he's altered - pretty easy to do I think, but don't get carried away with it because it puts more pressure on the turbo, which will eventually make it go phut. Can be an epensive way to get a few more hp.
thesubway
Yeah sounds good mate, thanks for the help guys looks like i'll be going for the next decent 1.9d 306 i see. Is there anything i should look out for when buying a 306?. Thanks Richie Edited February 28, 2005 by thesubway
