Sam Nichols
Just wondered... Since magura hosing should be all smooth and nice on the inside.. is there any reason why it wouldn't work well for a brake cable? Or is this a crappy idea? TheMunn
Outer cable isn't expensive, so go buy some.

Punkrider
Magura hosing would probably wear down quicker, as proper outer cable has metal on the inside (Y)" Adam

I know outer cable isn't expensive, I work in a cycle shop so i get it free! I'm just wondering about maggy hosing for the friction side of things. I.E. Smoother brake. andrew69
i used a bit of blue for locking out my mech looks pimp lol but as the cabal dont move its fine (Y) Andrew Edited February 26, 2005 by andrew69
N.Wood
Would the hosing fit into the 'lil ferruls they fit into? They may well be smoother, though as they wern't designed to take a cable the smoothness may not be suited to metal, but suited more to a fluid. Also i recon there'd be alot of compression as they're not as stiff as normal cabling. Apparently mech cabling is stiffer than brake cabling so that might be worth a try at some point. Good idea though (Y) EDIT: The Mag hosing is alot wider in diameter compared to the standard cabling. So the inner cable would have more freedom inside the hose, but i'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing really? I'm just wondering about maggy hosing for the friction side of things. I.E. Smoother brake. ← i think so long as there was no major bends in the hose the cable wouldnt produce excess friction. And you would have to use lots of grease/lube etc. so theres as little friction as possible. but i think the best way to go about it is to just try (Y)
Tom Booth
I had mech cable in my vee with a loada wd-40 in the cable, that was nice and slick moving. I think the maggie hosing probably would work, just would weat out quite fast. Tom
Davetrials
Fatmike had it at tech 04 it seemed to work.
Phatmike
Fatmike had it at tech 04 it seemed to work. ← It worked, but SQUUIIIIDGE!! As said before, since there was no metal inner-casing, the plastic just compresses like mad! It works, isn't great though! Just use normal outer. picki
even normal outer is a bit squidgy.... use that metal stuff benlee has/had on his avid disc....cant remember the name though (Y)
Luke Drewery
I'd just stick with normal outer if i were you, its tried and tested :turned:

I just thought it might've been an idea, but since mikes already tried and it was poor - theres no point me trying :P odyssey cables for me then!
