Mark W
Just when you thought DMR V8's were safe... My troubles with my freaking V8's were at an end. My new pedals were here, I was screwing them in, when lo - I get to the right side pedal, and the steel insert on my Onza cranks starts rotating off with the pedal spindle. Piss. Does anyone know of any ways I can stop this happening and get my pedal off? Thanks for any help, Mark.
Brisa
Im not sure if these are like my mates truvatives or not but his had two little holes so that a wee pin spanner could go in at the back and stop it rotating...
Mark W
Yeah, it's the same deal, but they're second hand and came sans the little cover.
Brisa
Could trytaking it out insert and all, clamp it in a vice with some wood and then take the pedal off... Find some way of keeping the insert in for the future, maybe locktite but may not be strong enough, plain old super glue/araldite?
Mark W
I doubt I'd be able to hold the insert in place though, without going directly from insert to vice. Also, the insert will only go about half way out, then it gets super hard to move, but not enough to break the bond between insert and spindle. I'm thinking maybe using mole-grips to grip the insert -> crank arm and then undo pedal?
Lawnmowerman
Deep penetrating lube like silkopen will do it, spray a b*****d load on the thread and let it soak in for a bit. It`ll make it a lot easier to undo. And when you put them back on, shove some grease or copper slip on the threads so they will come out easier when you need to take them off again (Y)
Brisa
An idea would maybe be to thread it out as far as you can and grab it with mole grips and if your dmr's are newerish they will have a 5 or 6mm alen doofer in the end of the axle? use it maybe? ScotchDave
Get onza to send you a new set of inserts? use the new backing plates to hold the inserts while you unscrew the pedals. Remove old inserts, clean old threads out and put back in with industrial loctite. It works.
Bionic Balls
Happened with my tensiles....just unscrew the lot (pedal + axle + insert), and then clamp the insert in the vice and unscrew the pedal. Ta daaaa....make sure you dont clamp it too tight (use the collar) otherwise you'll deform it....shouldn't be too easy too since the pedal axle is in there... hope that made sense... adam
ScotchDave
You can do that too, but mark said he wasd having trouble gettin his inserts out, so forcing them might not be a good idea.

Lukeee
I know this sounds mega c-untish , but are you gonna come on to a forum and start a topic everytime you have a problem in your life?
Trebor
I know this sounds mega c-untish , but are you gonna come on to a forum and start a topic everytime you have a problem in your life? ← Well, it is a bike related problem, so him posting in here doesn't really seem too silly. In these situations it's probably alot better to ask for help before doing anything which could fudge up his cranks, I know I'd rather post up here and sit here for about half an hour asking a question than going right on ahead and screwing something up. It's not as though he posting loadsa threads in chit-chat asking what to do about this or that, if he was I'd see where you were coming from . . . . But 9 times out of 10 this sort of stuff can be worked out on your tod in your garage. I mean all the replys are pretty much common sense.... Don't you think?
