Ali C
I have got Far Cry on pc (best game ever!) but its very hard and I have been stuck for ages at a cirten place. I have found web sites that tell you cheats, but they really confuse me. "open the console (the ~ or TILDE key)" What the hell is the console? and why when I press the ~ button nothing happens? Also, whats the TILDE key? this site confuses me............"Move the DevMode.lua file to the main FarCry Directory overwritting other file. Start game by adding the '-devmode' parameter" what the hell does that mean? :- cheers Al
cookie456_the2nd
erm, whats the point in buying a game and using cheats? just try to get past the part your at. good luck!
Ali C
some people get more fun out of a game when cheating than playing the game its self
giptown
this site confuses me............"Move the DevMode.lua file to the main FarCry Directory overwritting other file. Start game by adding the '-devmode' parameter" what the hell does that mean? wacko.gif This reffers to adding "devmode" to the end of the target for the .exe file (the file used to launch the game). I had to do something similar to get a version of HL2 working. The easiest way to do this is as follows: 1. Create a shortcut to the .exe file (probably called farcry.exe or similar) 2.Next right click on that shortcut and select properties 3.Finally in the target box add "-devmode" (without the quotation-marks) after the quotiation-marks that are already there. I hope this helps a bit, and you understand what im getting at. If not, i'll try and make it clearer.
Smo™
Basically what you want to do is add -developer to the end of the game shortcut. For example, if you have a shortcut to FarCry on your desktop, right-click on it and look in the 'target' box, there you will see where the shortcut points to (I'm using Max Payne as an example): Not what you need to do is to type '-devmode' (here I've had to use -developer because the game is different) with a space between it and the target so it looks like this: Click on 'Apply' and then close the window. The next time you load the game, press the '` button (it's the left of the No. 1 key, above the TAB key, and under Esc) in the top left of your keyboard during gameplay. This will bring up the console, allowing you to type in cheats, then all you have to do is press that key, type the cheat, press return, and then press the console key again to close it. Happy Gaming. Edited February 19, 2005 by Smo

Tomm
And the tilde button is the one just to the left of the "1" key on most keyboards. Just above tab  FarCry is very good. Where are you up to? I was addicted to that game.
Fishwog
So true, t'is very addictive, I got upto the waterfall bit before i resorted to cheats. I mean you look over that waterfall from the top to see about 150 bad-ass creatures that you literally have to go straight through!
Ali C
I aint as far as that, I am in the caves but I have next to no life, the guys just keep on comming! I tryed the cheats, but I couldnt get them to work. When I put the code in the target and tryed to click apply, it said the target wasnt correct and wouldnt let me do anything  I have found the DevMode.lua file but how do I move that to the main far cry directory and overwrite the main file? as you might have guessed, computers aint my strong point lol
Smo™
The target has to be (eg): "X:\FarCry\FarCry.exe" -devmode As for DevMode.lua, highlight the one you want to replace the original with (just by left-clicking on it once) and press Ctrl+C, then open up the main FarCry directory (containing the DevMode.lua you wish to replace) and press Ctrl+V. You'll see a massage pop up asking if you want to overwrite, click on 'Yes' and you're all set. I made that a bit simple, so I apologise if you found it at all patronising. Ali C
aaaarrgggghh!! this is really pissing me off now! I have got the target thing into my head (it still wont let me do that untill I have done this next bit below) but I just cant do the DevMode.lua replacment thing :o I have copied the DevMode.lua file, but I am having trouble finding the main directory, I think I have found it, but I aint sure if its the right one (I pressed "find target" and it led my to a file just called far cry) If I click on that once and press ctrl+v it just puts the copied file in the overall folder. If I double click on the far cry file, it will just open the game. Is the name "directory" just the main game file? I would put screen shots, but its on my nice fancy computer upstairs. Loved it, its an amazing game but lost interest when all them wierd monstors are in it, cause it lost all realism I tryed cheats and some of them work but are total crap, and they don't enable you to finish the level somtimes. Smo™
Can you post the directory that you installed FarCry into? So right-click the game shortcut (which is probably on your desktop) and paste here what the target says please :o
MadManMike
erm, whats the point in buying a game and using cheats? just try to get past the part your at. good luck! ← Whats the point in that? He obviously want's to cheat because he's stuck... If you can't help why bother posting? Rant over...

At the bottom you find a helicopter with a machine gun mounted in it. From then its easy. :o
ERgoSuM
Not sure if this helps, If you want to replace that file in the FarCry directory, to make it easier for yourself, first find the original you are replacing. Make a note of what folder it is in. To find it there are 2 options, that come to me, 1. Go to start>search, search for the file you want to replace. 2. Go to your "my computer" , then "local disc C" then programme files, then look for the folder far cry is contained in and search for the file. When you find the file you want to replace, simply paste the new file into the folder the old one is contained in. Your replacing the exact same named file with one of the same name, hence the PC will ask you if you want to over-write the previous file, say "yes". or "ok" or whatever. As thommo said, the tilde key is the one in the top left of your keyboard, left of the 1 key and above the tab key. The console allows you to alter the way the game runs by changing the inputs the game uses. It also allows you to change what keys do what in the game, AKA binding a key. Plus numerous other functions. Alot of games have consoles, e.g. Half life, Counter strike, Call of Duty.
