Danny
Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices > Speaker Settings > Advanced > Make sure its on quadraphonic :-
Caleb
Cheers for the help danny, iv tried switching it to quarophonic but still sure its not working also tried it on the normal surround sound and still only two on. NVIDIA N force sound card i believe. And its a fairly new decent pc so i should expect they would be compatible. But how do i check?
Caleb
Please anyone else this is really bugging me now . Iv got this far and changed the setting to quadraphonic, tried turning my speakers off and restarting and still no luck :- Cant get the print screen up for some reason but it showed loads of different speaker types i could use e.g. surround sound 5.1 etc
JTM
Whats the difference between 4 point surround sound and 5.1? I thought 5.1 was just 2 rear, 2 front and a centre speaker (ie. the sub) ?
Caleb
I think the 5.1s are the min compact speakers more for dvd etc, but also i didnt know whether to select quadraphonic or surround as there were 4 shown on quad and 4 on surround and a sub i think, and i have a sub so i tried both but still not a sausage :-
Caleb
Just took out the rear lead wwhich is conncted to the front and now the quality is better and all speakers are on :- confused but it works so ill leave it i think

JTM
Im a little confused, im guessing on "surround sound" the same audio signal goes to all speakers (except sub) but it just immerses you in sound more? Unlike on a 5.1 system where each speaker has certain channels which it responds to and therefore each speaker will create a different soundstage giving depth and distance? Is that right? (tomm? lol)
Tomm
Im a little confused, im guessing on "surround sound" the same audio signal goes to all speakers (except sub) but it just immerses you in sound more? Unlike on a 5.1 system where each speaker has certain channels which it responds to and therefore each speaker will create a different soundstage giving depth and distance? Is that right? (tomm? lol) ← Hehe :- Um, I'm not sure what the actual definition of surround sound/5.1 is, but what he is doing has a different channel for each speaker. 5.1 is left & right front, left & right rear, centre and sub. I think the .1 means a sub. So 5.1 is actually 6 speakers. Anyway, you don't have any input to the rear speakers. That's why it's not working. You need a cable from the back of the PC into the "Audio inputs - rear" socket. If there are no other sounds outputs on the PC (Unlikely I would have thought, unless it's a really cheap motherboard), then you need to go and buy a sound card. They're quite cheap for just a bog-standard 5.1 card. I have one you can have for £4 if you're interested.
JTM
Cos im bored, and just to be different, couldnt you do this: And before you say it Tomm, no you cant get 3.5mm jack to x2 3.5mm jack cables  That would only give the same signal from each speaker, but if what I put up there ^^^ is correct, thats all you would get if its done properly anyway
Danny
Why dont you have a wire going into the rear input on the back of the sub? You should have green and black going into the sub and the computer. No wonder you dont have all 4 working if you aint got anything plugged into the black rear socket  I had those exact speakers. If you have nforce audio you should have a control panel like the following to change your speaker setup....
Caleb
Forgot to say i took the rear lead out just to test then all the speakers were working but 2 very quietly as a pose to two silent. i did have both leads in before im not that stupid lol. I do have 3 ports on my mother board? one green one pink and one blue the green works but i put the black lead into the blue port as it it looks like a speaker one and the pink one is for microphones , so kinda trial and error. Ill take some pictures of the back of my base unit if that helps. Sorry for not making the previous clear :"> Also i just have the usual windows audio properties window, will i need to download the drivers for thge speakers to get the n vidia one or should it already be on? Danny
Looked it up on the asus site and it states it has 6 channel audio yet the motherboard only has mic/linein/spr  Odd. Maybe it only supports 6 channel with the optional digital bracket :- EDIT: Found a review and it seams only the next model up has 6 channel. Your best bet is probably to buy that soundcard off tomm :P
