How To Lock Rear Mechs

I dont have the cash for a dmr single speed chain device thing, but on my zebdi, cant i use my rear mech and lock it out so it's stiff and use that to get extra tightness in the chain? I wanted to lock it up and cable tie it to my frame.

If so how?, i heard you have to take out the springs.

There isnt really much point in doing both...

If you have any old velcro watch straps lying round use that instead of a zip tie so you dont have to cut off the zip tie everytime you need to take the wheel out...

If you want it so it takes up some chain slack, there is another way...

Break the chain and take it out of the mech. Then, thread it through so it goes UNDERNEATH the top jockey wheel, whereas before it went over it. You can then run it straight from that jockey wheel to the chainring, so it'll mean that because of the natural movement of the derailleur it'll keep pulling the chain tight. You can then cut down the excess (the bottom half) of the mech and Bob's your uncle...

Hadn't though of that, I see where you're coming from now. Because it gets pulled up quite near to the chainstay though, it might not be *so* bad? Either way, I'll check out how my friend's bodge like that is going and let y'all know.

It basically ends up like being a Forge tensioner, but actually good
