The enchanted broomstick
ive noticed that trials has built my arms and legs up quite a lot, in the 4 years ive been doing it from the age of 12 to now 16 but now i dont get to ride as often cos im at work and dont have the after school spare time, god i miss that! i really really dont have time for the gym and dont wanna waste my weekends on it because i wanna ride which im thinking a weekends riding is plenty of excercise. i seem to have a layer of flab over my gut but underneath that is some rock hard muscle when its tensed I have weights that i use at home, but is there anything else i can use or do to help me get to MR UNIVERSE? tipsy Jock
Hmmm useful stuff, i really need to lose "junior", the student life and too much beer doesn't do much for ones fitness lol. though i do swim lanes every monday, play squash once or twice a week and ride as much as i can. Think i'm slowly winning my battle lol. Easter and the summer will do great things to lose the belly methinks Pete
zoojames
Im going to start swimming more and join a gym. I've spoken to a full on body building obsessed guy and he said that jogging is better than swimming because you sweat when jogging whereas swimming you just get tired. After seeing two built guys argue like that whats your opinoins? Also whats the best way to loose fat from your arse :"> ? Ive found trials to built my legs up nicely and my forearm but I leave my stomach to school rowing machines! B) How much gym time a week is recomended? James :(

club_card
Well, It depends how you ride really. Genrally people sit around chatting, chilling, do some gaps, have a laugh... as aposed to pushing yourself as hard as you can none stop for an hour. It's not going to be as effective as say XC. I'm the same as fuse, bulking, I was 8.8 stone 9 months ago, and now i'm pretty much bang on 12, still at 6.7% bodyfat too :) ← jeepers 9 stone quite thin :( ooh and another thing how do you measuer bodyfat? i hav'nt seen this measurement before im just curious to see what mine is :S B)
phil_anderer
also genetics, some people just have a higher metabolism for no reason, means calories are burnt quicker even when resting, less weight gain. also about being visibly fat, rather than muscly, again, altho working out helps, some of it is down to genetics and how ur body was treated in its early years to how it uses muscles/fat. some people naturally have super low or high body fat percentage , those people with naturally high body fat percentage, although they will be able to lose weight and lower there fat percentage. theyll never have the washboard abs(well they will, but it will be invisible under an inch of fat). this is down to either genetics, or the bodies upbringing, and its requirements for energy as a youngster. for example, if you were a person who was mal-nourished as a child, and were very thin. chances are the way your body works now, is to absorb all the energy it can from food, which it will burn slowly over 2 or 3 days,(rather than turn it to fat) as it knows turning it to fat is pointless as it will be needed soon, as youll often miss days without meals As Alexx said, anyone can do it, it just takes hard work. And how many people do you know in this country who are malnourished!? The body is very adaptable, if you eat like a horse for 15 years it will become used to that, but then you can just as easily retrain it to graze like a cow. how do you measuer bodyfat? i hav'nt seen this measurement before im just curious to see what mine is Most gyms have a machine in which sends an electric pulse through your body, and measures your fat content. Or there are calipers that you can buy to measure fat. Neither are 100% accurate, but both give a good indication. I am usually about 7%. whats the best way to loose fat from your arse Run to the hills! Honestly. If you do 3sessions of running a week on a fairly up and down course, you will burn the fat and get rock hard glutes. Another thing that is excellent for arse - squats. Squats build a whole lot of muscle, which then has the knock on effect of making you burn more calories all day, and squats tone arse like no-thing. :- How much gym time a week is recomended? I personally like to do 3 sessions of weights a week, and 3 sessions of cardio, on alternate days, and this is pretty standard - unless you are a real muscle bunny like Alexx who doesn't believe in Cardio. :) Im going to start swimming more and join a gym. I've spoken to a full on body building obsessed guy and he said that jogging is better than swimming because you sweat when jogging whereas swimming you just get tired. After seeing two built guys argue like that whats your opinoins? Both are excellent CV - both make you sweat, the muscle head just doesn't realise that, cos he is already wet! I personally get a whole lot more out of running, because my swimming technique is not good enough to get a really hardcore CV exercise out of it. But swimming is undoubtedly the better option for someone who is just starting out on the CV trail, as it much lower impact on the body. My veins have become more visible recently, mostly on my arms, what does this mean? Less fat? Bigger muscles? More efficient CV system? Stopped smoking? Bit warm? Could be a whole host of things! really really dont have time for the gym and dont wanna waste my weekends on it because i wanna ride which im thinking a weekends riding is plenty of excercise Riding is good for burning some cals to keep the fat off, but it will never make you CV fit, or make you really stacked, because it just doesn't work you hard enough. The Gym is the only easy way to bulld the muscle you want. Joel
Alexx
I personally like to do 3 sessions of weights a week, and 3 sessions of cardio, on alternate days, and this is pretty standard - unless you are a real muscle bunny like Alexx who doesn't believe in Cardio. :P ← haha, I do believe in cardio, just my metabolism is just so rediculously fast that after 8 months of solid bulking with no cardio and 8,000 calories a day currently, I'm still under 6% bodyfat :- :) It'd be a little pointless for me :P And yeah, squats are like the ulitmate ass builder! Though if your doing them right, you shouldn't be enjoying them :D I've thrown up doing squats, lol! Great reply phil :P
