sir trial a lot
hi, how often do you strip your bike right down to the frame to clean it and regrease hubs etc. plus do you find unsealed hubs get full of rubbish very quickly? as i live at the coast we practice on the old buildings at the beach = a lot of sand :( it gets everywhere and i cant seem to find anything to keep it out :) apart from getting sealed hubs etc. which i will when i have the money, what can i do to protect my bearings for the time being? (i am aware there may be nothing)
quick_spider
I strip it down when I have a new frame... so not very often. Everything I run now runs on sealed bearings so that's not much help to you. Other than cleaning/re-greasing the hub often... You could add a 'grease port' to the hub - drill a small hole in the hub shell and then use a syringe to pump grease into it. The old grease should come out where the bearings aren't sealed. Hopefully along with any crap that's got in. Otherwise keep saving :( Jon
sir trial a lot
Thanks john :) any more people with helpful tips? :(
ScotchDave
I'd strip it down every month or so, after all it only takes 10 minutes at the most per hub, and a headsets even less. Pedals are harder though, and that's it done.
