hey guys

i ask this because my avid has been getting pretty shoddy lately

ever sinse iw ent to porthcawl its not worked properly, some goon rode around with no front wheel on my bike while i was away, and the cam inside the calliper just doesnt work like it should, and the pads have seen their fair share of use and arnt really up to much anymore....

so

until avid pads come into the country (i dont think u can get them yet) ive put an xtr v brake on the front

just a std xtr setup with red fibrax pads, and its actually REALLY good. on a polished reggie rim with a bit of muckoff, the power is imense, and its a much more stable solid feeling brake than the disc ever was....

i know when the rain comes itll be useless.

but im getting the first set of heatsink v brake pads this week, so i might decide to run a very light grind on the front and have brakes in all weather!

just

I know what you mean. I think you get a more direct feel from a vee, as your input seems to have more of an effect. Also, i found that with a disc the spokes seem to flex a bit more.

bitemybutt???

is that the same bitemybutt that i sold an echo to 2 years ago? jon i seem to remember? if it is, where on earth have u been hiding for the last year or more?

I went from a disk to a magura and i think that the magura is alot better. My disk was abit strong and I think that is why my forks decided to collapse on me :(

I would get another disk though now as I have steel forks which are less likely to snap under the stress of the disk

That would be true in the case of a Hope mini  :)"

Whats the bets Nick goes back to a disc before long  :( Mr Bike Fiddler Supreme :P

id like to take this change to point out that my bike remained totally unchanged from the middle of september right through to last week!!!!which is certainly a record for me!!!!!

im not denying i will probably go back to the disc sometime soon

im just surprised at quite how good the v brake feels after having a gay disc for so long

i know the v doesnt compare to the avid when it was working perfectly, but even a great working avid still goes pants if u actually use to slow down going down a hill! which is such a fecking nuisance!

do the hope mono trial discs suffer badly from fade like avids?

I switched from a Hope Mini to a avid SD7. I liked the V-Brake much more than the disk, it just generally felt better. Plus when it started to rain and the brake got wet, it would lock up even more than in the dry, which I was pritty amazed at. I would still be running the V-Brake if my bike hadn't got nicked.

ive had one or two proper rides with the v brake now, and although its not as powerful as the avid was when it was working properly, the braking feel is somehow MUCH more direct and posotive, with the disc thers less feel and more flex from the forks, but the v brake somehow seems to be more direct, and generally feel nicer!

im hoping that with a VERY light grind, and heatsink v brake pads (the first set of which are on their was to me as we speak for testing!) i should have an imensely power ful, direct feeling, all weather brake!!!!

sorted

ill wait tilli try the heatsink pads on both a ground and polished rim, then ill pass my judgement on v brakes (Y) but if the improvement with heatsinks is similar to the improvement of a magura with black pads compared to batch B's.... u see what im saying.

should be awesome!
