dirtbiker
Ello, Most of you have seen that i'm trying to swap my Giant for a BMX? Finally i've got an offer that i like the sound of: Its a Macneil Jay Miron with Ultimate Hardware cranks, Prolite hubs (freewheel) and the macneil finishing pack. Do you reckon this is a fair swap? Thanks people!
pinky
I wouldnt personally But its up to you
Max Quinn
What are the bars and forks and everything. The frame you can get new for 100 and the cranks aren't amazing. Max
dirtbiker
I'm under the impression that they're macneil too...? Basically i'm having problems selling the giant, and if i put it on ebay i'm gonna have to sell at a huge loss, so this is probably a more cost effective way of getting a decent bmx. Any other thoughts?
Mark W
That's the Ultimate Hardware finishing kit from the Macneil bike package from a pretty big BMX mail order company, isn't it? *can't remember name* If so, you'd better really want to get rid of your bike to get it. dirtbiker
Could well be that kit. In fact it almost certainly is. Put it this way, the most i would concievebly get for my Giant would be about £400? This bike (so he says anyway) cost £600 and has hardly been ridden. Thanks for putting some doubt into my mind, but it seems like an ok deal to me....?
rich4130
No way do it. Thats a cheap kit, nasty unbranded stuff, worth about £100. Cyclesportltd.com
dirtbiker
That link has the cranks for £70 I've seen the frame for £215 I'm gonna assume that the hubs are open bearing: £33 Thats come to £315 already... (Y)
Mark W
Don't forget when the kits are made up that the parts will be charged closer to trade, so you're effectively paying trade + £_ _ _, if you get me. So even if he paid £600 for it, it won't be worth that much? What length TT is the Miron? Is it long enough relative to how tall you are? Make sure it's all sorted first... Has he cut the bars down? dirtbiker
Its a 20.5" top-tube and i'm about 5'11 (172cm) Sound about right? I was planning on getting some Hoffman jump bars as i love the shape of those, but the bars haven't been cut down. Anything else i should consider? Thanks for this Mark, i really appreciate it. Lawnmowerman
Personally i wouldnt, you could split your bike on ebay and get quite a bit for it, plus that macneil looks like its quite old (similar to the hoffman butcher weighing over 7lbs (Y) ) If i were you i would do the ebay split and buy parts, you can get a pretty mint bmx built pretty cheap second hand. dirtbiker
Do you really think the frame's worth that much? Its not dented or cracked, but it has a few scratches on the top tube and down tube. The CRMs are practically brand new, they've been used for about 2hrs. Thanks for that, do you think i should put the start prices at that, or a bit lower and hope they go up? (Y)
Swindon rider
The Giant frame is £150 new. And that bmx is kinda shite to be honest, im sure you could find a much better deal in Ride or summin, sell the giant then buy a bmx, dont swap it is more hassel than is worth, usuall. BONGO
the macneil miron frame is the OLD version which is available now for £100. it is heavy. (Y) i would keep the giant to be honest. You probably wouldn't be happy with that bmx and wish you kept the giant. john
dirtbiker
Cheers for that John, i really want a bmx for the summer though. Assuming i get about £400 for the Giant parts on ebay, what would you reccomend? I've had a Hoffman Dirt Merchant 2 before and i really liked that, especially the bars. I'm about 172cm tall and i weigh aboutu 75kg. (Y)
