UrbanPoet
I'm with Natwest and I get a loverly Solo card; works in most shops, most online places and Paypal :S Whatever you do don't get an Electron, compared to a Solo hardly anywhere accepts them. I think that's about it.
011001000110010101110010
I have an electron, and they do royally suck. Only places of any use that exept them are chain reaction and tesco's.
JT!
I'm with HSBC, and i got my solo card with them when i was 16. (and a free shower clock radio, which was crap) You can use a solo nearly all shops/online shops etc. :S
tomturd
What do you think this is? Bank-forum or something? :S But anyway, think I got a switch card at 16/17 from Natwest after losing my solo card on a regular basis (I guess in the end I must have got over a certain age limit and sent me one automatically), but then again I opened a savings account the other day and they only gave me a solo card. Ask around if I were you, find the best card and go for that. Also check out the service you get. Lloyds just stuck a leaflet in my hand and pushed me aside, natwest on the otherhand took me aside and sorted everything out for me - their customer service is really good. Theyve also promised to never outsource call centers to other countries... I cant imagine how difficult it would have been to phone up wrecked at 3am, with porn playing in the background doing my best to explain ive lost my card with no idea of where or when, to some guy who doesnt speak english - so thats a good thing :)

DJ Phaze
Try and push as hard as possible for a Switch Card - which is WAAAAAY better than Solo (which sucks...) I got Switch @ 16yrs at Halifax :)) Also got online banking too, when it first came out :))
shaggy
Get switch card, bank might call it Visa debit card as switch isnt used on most new cards anymore.
Michael Hardman
Just dont go to Nationwide, there a good bank just you have to be 18 for a debit card.
onzamad
i didn't know that a 16 year old could have a visa or switch card.
DJ Phaze
Credit Cards are for 18+, debit cards are for 16+ in most banks. Just ask around the banks - seems the easiest way to find out!
Tomm
I had a solo and it was great. Online, there were no shops that didn't accept it. Just say it's a Switch and it works fine...
Josephine
Electron really isn't as piss poor as most people seem to think, you can get away with calling it a VISA unless they specifically say you can't. I've not had an online order denied for as long as I can remember... Joe
